I'm a young guy in my 70's and have a 6 year old daughter and wife to provide for and defend. That being said, I live in Las Vegas and presently have a 38 Special. My carry permit is now up for renewal and I'm ready to go back to class.
I found this site (thankfully) while researching for a new carry weapon. I've read many of the posts and will be doing a lot more reading before coming to a decision.
Also read the rules of membership and I'm glad to see the kind of membership you have.

Thanks for any input

Welcome Shel,

I'm a young guy in my 70's
For one thing, I don't feel so old anymore, I'm 62.

In my somewhat distorted opinion, ditch the .38 and get a 1911 .45. as it is said, when you take 'em down, they stay down. Practice "double taps" with a Streamlight in your weak hand. Or if you're not into a lot of practice, a short barreled shot gun works wonders (one with a kight attached.

You've made me happy by being older than me.
