Short version - Would you reccomened this gun to a close friend/relative/etc to defend themselves and their family with?
Long version - I have been a 9mm guy for a long time (Not trying to start a caliber war discussion here, just giving some back ground) My first carry piece was a sigma 9mm. I got rid of it because the trigger was horrible. I picked up a glock 19 which I though was a great gun but found a little bulky to carry. I got rid of the glock and in my search for a small, single stack 9mm with a external thumb saftey I arrived at a taurus 709.
When I first got the gun I was happy with it. However after trying a couple different types of ammo I found that it was light striking and had to send it back to taurus. It came back and functioned fine but was naever as accurate as I wanted it to be. Don't get me wrong, the gun was accurate enough for self defense purposes but not as accurate as I wanted to it to be. That could have been the gun, it could have been me. Regardless I ended up getting rid of it and picking up a S&W 908.
I am extrememly happy with the 908. It's small, light and reliable. It is also one of the most accurate 9mm's I have ever shot. More or less it's everything I could hope for in a 9mm carry gun. Even if it wasn't my primary carry gun it would be a great gun to just take wo the range and do some plinking with.
Latley however I have found myself wanting to carry a .45. Not really sure why but I guess to some extent the "proven man stopper" rhetoric may have got to me a bit but more then likley I'm just looking to justify buing a new gun
Anyway, after looking around for the features that I want (small, light weight, fairly thin, adjustable sights, manual thumb saftey) i have once again arived at a taurus product.
The PT145 has all of the features that I want. My only problem is that I am kind of at that once bitten twice shy point with taurus. I had to send my first one back and it was never as accurate as I wanted it to be. However the pt145 for the most part has gotten pretty good reviews. So if it came down to it, if someone you knew wanted a .45 with the features that I listed (and didn't have 800.00 bucks to shell out on a kimber or other compact 1911) would you be comfortable reccomending the pt145?
