I had a Russian SKS about nine years ago. After having it and working with it for about two years, I traded for something else. That's not to say the SKS wasn't an excellent rifle (back in the day). But even for 200yd shooting, I would rely totally on the stock sights, just like I will never have a scope on my AK. IMO......learn the sights, get the front sight tool, and learn the rear leaf adjustments. If you absolutely think you need a scope, I would recommend a side mount if they have them. The top cover mount last I remember, is way to risky for repeat zero, and the adjustments available pretty much rule out a solid platform that's repeatable. In my honest opinion, get to know your new rifle before you think about getting a scope for it. It's supposed to come battle ready with some training...as is. Again..IMO, if you are looking for optic sights on the SKS for whatever reason, you're more than likely skipping over some of the basics, or trying to compensate for physiologic requirements relating to your vision. On the other hand, if your SKS is somewhat your SHTF go-to...then maybe think about a red dot sight on a fore end mount. Back in my days of the SKS, they were superbly accurate to 100yds and pinned barrels. Nowadays, I'm out of the loop. I also figure the original quality of these rifles has reached it's peak, and going downhill.....in which case, if your rifle isn't inherently accurate with open sights, it more than likely won't be more so with advanced optics for it.
