I must be really old fashioned. Just saw the new sling shots, wasn't really sure what I was looking at. They are made from metal, not wood. You can purchase the "rocks" to shoot in a box, not find the perfect stone or something from Momma's kitchen or Deddy's toolbox to fling through the air. Can't nor will I judge because I ain't shot one nor do I know anybody that has.

If anyone has an opinion or has shot one of the new ones I'd love to hear their opinion on these new fangled contraptions.

Everybody should own a slingshot. They are great fun. They also teach you to instinctively hit things that you are looking at.

They are pretty easy to make if you're looking for a home project for yourself. Search ebay for slingshot ammo. The steel balls (in various sizes) are best and you can use them over and over again if you're shooting at a cardboard box stuffed with whatever (old clothes etc.) or buy a big bag of marbles. :biggrin2:

I have one that is lightweight Aluminum. I keep it in the Bug Out Bag. I'm not sure who made it but, it uses the flat gold theraband strips.

Back in my teens I took quite a few squirrels with one of the wrist rocket slingshots and glass marbles.

The new designs really increase the power and accuracy of the slingshot over the traditional versions. The materials used for ammo today (steel, glass) are excellent and their uniform shape makes them more accurate. I have purchased several for my sons who enjoy shooting them. Properly used they can provide meat for the larder with consistency.

Speaking of old primitive weapons. What do you call a boomerang that won't come back when thrown ? A stick.
I could not remember how to use a boomerang, then it came back to me.

My wife's late uncle was scary accurate with a "flip" as he called it. He grew up poor, and flips were cheap and rocks were handy. Never one of those new fangled "Wrist rockets" or the like. He'd pick out the perfect branch, trim it and attach the straps made from old bicycle inner tube. (old one, the new ones wern'te as good). I saw he pop several squirrels out of tall oaks and perferate many a Coke can on a bet. Marbles were his ammo of choice, but a nice pebble would do in a pinch. I was pretty good with a flip, but nothing close to him.

I had one. It had a wrist brace, too. It was fun to shoot, then it ended up in a yard sale. :embarassed:

I made one in middle school and made the horrible mistake of bringing it to school. This was New Jersey, circa 1990. On the bus, a large bully of a boy snatched it from my hands and refused to give it back. So I snatched it back from his hands, and he punched me across the face, knocking my glasses off. I picked up my glasses, put them back on, and gave it to him good. The bus driver didn't have a clue as it was a crowded bus, but he went for a rematch the next day. We were both suspended for three days. Today, I would've been arrested and expelled for bringing a weapon onto school property.

When I was a teen, I about did myself in with one. Shot at a grey squirrel on a shag bark hickory, using a marble. Missed the squirrel, and the marble bounced off the tree right back at me, knocking my new straw Stetson off, and put a pump knot right in the middle of my forehead. For a few minutes I thought I was in the enchanted forest with little blue birds flying around my head.
I looked like one of them people from India for a couple of days with a red dot between my eyes.

Never again. I used a 22 henceforth.

They are illeagle to own in NJ as well as rubber band guns.......I kid you not.
Sheesh. Breakin' the law at 11 years old. Somebody go arrest that 70 pound girl and put her behind bars. Rubber band guns, too? We had those. The kind where you could load six rubberbands on and fire and fire away. Semiauto rubber band gun! Lock her away forever!

Glad we moved out of that hole.
