I took my mill spec back to the range today and was shooting at 10" paper plates. Once I got into the groove and was making decent groups I decided to use a empty Winchester white box and ammo seperator as targets. I was shooting at 40 feet, and managed to get some pretty impressive groups that I would dare say are as good if not better than any $1000 + 1911. Click on the link for the pics. On the brown target(wwb) the group on the left is 8 rounds(7 in the mag and 1 in the pipe) and the group on the right is 7 rounds. On the seperator there are 7 rounds, 3 are right on the edge touching. Let me know what ya think.

Bruces...

The gun isn't accurate.

YOU are.

I've seen guys take guns I can't hit the broadside of a barn with and make crazy good shots.

I had to grade the range tests at my CHL class. There was this guy there who actually shot a 1" radius hole right in the center of the head. With a $500 Glock. He didn't lose this grouping until he had to shoot from 15 yards and even then he still had a perfect score.

I put 6 shots inside the 7-10 rings and feel proud of myself until I think of this guy then I feel embarassed.

And then I notice the guy in the next lane who's there all the time firing his Kimber and he can't put one in the 5 point zone of a qualification target.

Any quality firearm is exactly as accurate as its user.

Might be as accurate but the 1000+ will hold it longer than a mil spec .. i dont own a 1k+ either and i can usually shoot up to snuff with mu uncles trp and les baer with my piddley 700$ springfield but in 5k rounds the loaded willl be loose and wont shoot that but the baer and TRp wont all about hand fitting for the $$$

Nice groups! It really helped when I saw the tape measure. I shoot at paper plates too....figure it's same as a "Fat Head" BG....Frankly, any gun/shooter that can keep holes on a paperplate out to 25 yds will have no problem with a BG. Okay guys, I know there are a ton of other factors to consider....just let it go.

Chances are it'll hold up as long as you do your part. My well-worn first run of the GI Mil Spec guns with several thousand through it still shoots as well as my friend's TRP and another's $1200ish Kimber.

They both curse the small sights more than anything.

I have heard this many times about my mill spec wearing out before a hand fitted one, but thats where the lifetime warrentee comes in, when its shot out it goes back, they fix it and I keep shooting. If it isn't as accurate as it is now it goes back and they fix it. I can honestly say it was proboly the best $559 I ever spent, I love that gun.
