Ok...would you buy a used STI Escort in .40 S&W? The asking price is $899 at my LGS. MSRP is $1,185. What do you think of a compact 1911 (3" barrel, Officer frame) in .40? I've never purchased a .40 anything. If this were a .45, I wouldn't be asking, I'd be buying. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you answered your own question in a round a bout way. Get one in a 45.

STI handguns are not easily found. 3 years in El Paso and this is the first one I've come across. I'd love one in .45, but short of that, this one in .40 is available. I just don't know.

Well the 40 is a good round. It's main selling point is more power than a 9mm chambered in guns the same size as a 9mm. So, it's really about what you would rather have.

Well, I guess I have to make up my mind on whether I want to jump into .40 S&W. I've always resisted because I didn't want to add another caliber to my collection. This STI Escort is seriously making me consider it. You know how that goes. Get one of something and soon enough I'll have a Glock 23 to go with it!

Tough call! The STI is a nice gun, and at one point I'd have considered it because .40 was plentiful here. But now the .40 seems to have vanished and the only thing I can always find is .45 ACP. I guess it depends on how badly you want the gun, where it fits into your schemes and how readily available forty smith ammo is where you live.

Can't find much of anything around here. Someone else already bought it. So I went with a Remington stainless 1911 for $600. I have plenty of .45!
