Does any present 22 Mag. ammo stop fights with only two shots?? I found one of these for $300 in a LGS.
I own 2 of them. One, I carried in a wallet rig, as a #3 BUG, for about a decade or so. For when someone asked for my wallet, in an impolite way, I'd give it to them in the face. I've got another NIB, I bought, because. As a #2 (OR #3 OR #4 BUG) gun, I guess. If it wasn't in bad shape, you could alway's flip it. As a primary carry: NEVER. Nothing I've carried, for the past 3 decade's+ has been under .40.

Much better option for less money, IMO.

I would get the gun as it it a getting harder to find a nice one ..It is a great last ditch gun ..

22 mag has come a long way imop the new loads are made for SB guns less flash and made for short barrel guns .. So if I was carrying it I would carry it with gold dots or hornday ammo the rest of 22 mag is made for rifle imop lot of flash not much less

It is a for sure a bug to a bug not a main or even back up carry ..And a little tricky to carry with the open trigger guard as well

Do you have any .22 Mag ammo on hand? It’s been difficult to find lately.

For the money there are more capable choices.

My pajama gun is a 5 shot 22 LR NAA Mini revolver. It cost less, holds more ammo and the ammo is more readily available. Yes it’s single action but I prefer that for safety reasons in this application.

Available, for sure, but like you say, more capable choices.

If I ever find another HS double action 22mag I will take it home for 300 dollars But it would not be a good choice for carry . We do have couple more 22mags a ruger 3" lcr and my favorite a RIA XTM 22mag 1911 since I carry a LW Commander any how it feels right . 15 rounds in a mag , so far its been very reliable and with some minor sear spring tuning a real nice 3lb 4oz trigger . Ultra flat shooting and more accurate than is needs to be . The muzzle blast and flame from the barrels impressive too . I have 2000 rounds set aside for it too .

I had one of those that I got as part of a package deal of 3 different guns. I did fire about 50 rounds thru it and I did chronograph 10 rounds. (Two at a time). The results surprised me. Average came out over 900 fps.
As with any rounds, shot placement is King.
Respectable enough to get the job done at close range in my opinion.

I have one, but it is strictly a toy for the range. However, something is better than nothing.

I have fired my 22 mag and 22LR NAA pistols thru my chronograph and you lose ALOT of speed with those short barrels, but it beats nothing in a pinch, but I sure wouldn't want to get in a gunfight with it.

If I remember right. I was getting a hair over 700 FPS out of my 1.125" 22 LR NAA...The magnum was a 1 5/8" one and was showing just over 900 FPS. So not the tremendous speed we get out of a 22 mag rifle that makes it so effective. I imagine the Hi Standard would fall somewhere around 900 FPS as well, but I never did chrono that one.

Two rounds of 22 mag.
Don't assume either or both shots to be good hits or even hits.
Assume that even with a fatal (non-cns) hit(s), attacker has 10+ seconds of voluntary action.
Don't assume a lone attacker.

To me, 7 rounds of 380 (Ruger LCP) would be advantageous over any caliber derringer.
And a Ruger LCP 380 is not a handgun I'd prefer to defend myself with, its "better than nothing".
"Better than nothing"
is not a goal; neither is, "wouldn't want to get shot by it".
This is ALWAYS ready:

Or if you insist on a .22wmr and capacity, get a Kel-Tec PMR30. 30 rounds, a decent length barrel and a helluva flame front😆
I loved my PMR30, but it was difficult to find holsters. Have been thinking of getting the carbine version. I actually wound up trading the PMR for an original KSG pump. That was a great deal ten years ago or thereabouts.

Good price...sold mine for $900...almost 10 years ago...can't abide adj. sights, otherwise a great little cannon!

Just put the cylinder and slide sight on. About as close as you are gonna get to what you want these days.

I would wear cargo pants, and want at LEAST one of those in every pocket . As was mentioned, its a get off me last ditch effort. If you are carrying something different, and load it with snake shot if you live out in dangerous territory, go for it.

But a 90-something year old who has their wits about them should be able to choose freely.
Sometimes, even I'm not sure whether I was being sarcastic or not. Thirteen days later, I have no idea one way or the other.
