Finally got started oiling and putting away rifles for the season. Like to do this 2 - 3 times per year. Too busy with the move to get to this important chore before now.
Have a Winchester 1892 Large Loop. Don't care for the large loop now that the novelty has worn off. Located a regular finger loop and was all set to tackle that project today. Lever replacement on an 1892 requires a fair amount of dissasembly work.
Screw driver in hand, rifle in the gun vise, bit to the stock screw and I stopped. Got to thinking...don't really care for this 1892 in 357. Doesn't balance well, doesn't feel good in hand. The other 1892 is in 45 and it feels great in the hand. Accurate too, a 1 of 100 rifle.
Decided to fetch the Marlin 94 357. Thought about putting a Skinner on it but I like Buckhorn sights. Winchester but not Marlin. Pondered things a bit more and decided to file the Buckhorn to reshape it. Was plenty wide but weird rounded notch. Fixed it.
Finshed up with a few coats of cold bluing. Decided to keep the Marlin and part with the 357 Winchester in the end.
Sorted thru more stuff and found the Ruger 77/357. Hmm. All around ok rifle but not great. Has short comings. Decided no good reason the keep it. The Marlin can do everything the 77/357 can and is a whole lot more fun to shoot.
So a strange day at the workbench.
