I heard about the auto train fro VA to FL. I would like to ride my motorcycle from NY to VA.
Then take the auto train with my motorcycle. Can I lock my gun in my saddlebags on the train?
I have a NY unrestricted permit and a UT and a FL non residence permit. Does anyone have experience doing this?

Just an FYI...the auto train from Lorton, VA to Sanford, FL is a LONG ride. 17.5 hours. Would be faster to just ride. I can drive from Washington DC to Tampa in 13 hours.

If you add in the cost of the motorcycle and for instance get a "roomette" it will run you roughly $430 for 1 way!!! If you stick with just a coach seat it will still run you roughly $250 for 1 way.

Ride the rest of the way to Fla. It is an interesting trip. I have done it many of times. If you have the time get off of 95 and see some of the country.

And there in lies the rub. Seems that the auto train part of amtrak doesn't have a checked baggage system. The link I posted above is by someone who went this route and was told no firearms on the auto train. The regular amtrak trains do have the checked baggage available.
