Hi,
I’M Honorably disch’d VN era vet. No one special at all actually. Registered voter. Tax payer. Etc. Shot competition during and shortly following my military service. Mostly long guns, some handguns. Did really well… then had to stop. Now, of necessity, am returning to the fold. Have a few semi auto pistols which is a whole new ball of wax for me. One auto loader 12ga. One pistol round carbine… so far.
In process of or waiting for, CCL to finish, so I’m pondering some of this new high tech stuff from CorBond, Liberty, etc., as replacement for what I’d normally figure on carrying, and am begining to rethink even which caliber too.
I’ve always owned and shot 357 revolvers on a personal basis. The military put me onto the 45ACP naturally. Liking both and deciding on gaining the priviledge to carry concealed,
I felt to split the diff and bought a Ruger SR40C. Hung a Viridian C5L onto it, and so far have only shot about 50 – 60 rounds thru it. Certinaly under 100 for sure. It’s recoil using Speer GD 155, Hornady 165 JHPs surprised me a great deal with their snappy report.
Knowing ordinarily when the load lightens, the recoils usually drop coincidentally too.
Reading about this new Liberty/Halo speed of light 60gr. button it pops out, I’m wondering…. All about it. Stopping power. Penetration. Dependability, and accuracy, etc., for real world circumstances. Clothes, hackets
Comparing the SR 40C to my FNP 45T… well there’s no comparison actually with respect to recoil. On the heels of shooting that compact, firing the FNP 45T is like shooting a 22, or 5.7!. I’m guessing too even going shorter or smaller than my Ruger P345, I’d not be gaining a much easier to deal with recoil by getting one of the newer sub compact single stack 45s from Beretta, SW, Springfield, etc. Right?
So as I’m new and glad to be here, what’s the general consensus on these “Hyper Drive frangeable” slugs vs staying with the more standard & heavier JHP loads? Are they “the deal” or how to turn your carry gun into a shotgun, magic?
BTW… what’s up with this shortage of ammo everywhere?
I can’t even find 45ACP or 40SW, FMJ or JHP at anything resembling reasonable prices these past couple weeks. I got worried some and bought ONLY 40 rds of each in Gold Dots, and am embarrassed to say I paid $33 per bx of 20!
I’m into this deal expressly for self and home defense. Get to the range not nearly as much as I want to or should. Am old school on many things regarding weapons, and don’t feel the world is about to explode, the poles reverse, Zombies are walking the Earth, or wide spread famine and revolutions are about to jump off. I’m far more concerned about drug dealing in my neighborhood, gang activity… and other real world stuff… so maybe I’ve been out of the loop somewhat on what is up with this latest ammo drought.
I’ve emailed my congressional reps and so forth on the fierce rush to judgement on gun controls though, warning them notions on limiting mag capacities, national registries, and illegally stereotyping former vets who’ve sought out professional help in their pasts ‘exclusively’, are not effective paths for attempting to deal with such things adequately, or at all.
Guess someone figured out if there’s no bullets, guns don’t work. I suppose they’ve never used their service pistol as a hammer. Hopefully this is a temporary travesty. Hopefully.
Any thoughts on the ideas on carry ammo or where it can be had at more reasonable prices, are most welcomed.
TIA
