This is circulating as an email - so may not be new to some here. It is however I think another situation worthy of consideration - more so maybe for our wives. Whether it originates from a genuine LEO is academic as - it is a situation I can see as a possible at least.

Lieutenant Tony Bartolome

You walk across the parking lot, unlock your car and get inside. Then
you lock all your doors, start the engine and shift into REVERSE, and you
look into the rearview mirror to back out of your parking space and you
notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear window. So, you
shift into PARK, unlock your doors and jump out of your car to remove that
paper (or whatever it is) that is obstructing your view.
When you reach the back of your car, that is when the car-jackers appear
out of nowhere, jump into your car and take off! Your engine was running,
(ladies would have their purse in the car) and they practically mow you
down as they speed off in your car. BE AWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS
NOW BEING USED. Just drive away and remove the paper that is stuck to your
window later, and be thankful that you read this email.

I hope you will forward this to friends and family...especially to women!
A purse contains all identification, and you certainly do NOT want someone
getting your home address. They already HAVE your keys!

Every time? True enough - that is a wise move but - I wonder, if we all would do it every time?

This scenario would put me in orange and so I doubt I would fall for it - suspicious SOB that I am. I can tho see it as being a possible good BG move with many folks.

A good heads up. I would like to add that being aware before getting in the car and seeing the paper (or any other strange item) would send up a red flag. Always keep aware of your surroundings including where you are going and where you have been. If I could just get the GF to pay more attention to her surroundings.

Am I the only one who checks all around my car before I pull out of a parking space? I check for glass or foreign objects around my tires, remove flyers from windshield, and scan the area before ever unlocking my door. Maybe I'm just a bit off.

No Tom - you are a bit ''on''. Always good to do.

If I park in street for a few minutes then I don't check all round usually but tend to reserve that scan for when been away a bit longer and in a large parking lot. Not a bad thing to do any ol' time if truth known - along with the routine ''environmental'' scan we should all do.
