I was going to get away and do some backpacking in the Big Bend of Texas this first week of June.
But with all this civil unrest I feel uncomfortable leaving my wife by herself.
I know the chances of her getting into trouble are small, I could never forgive myself if something happened.
So I guess I will put on hold till things quiet down. Sure would have been nice to get away from all the news for a while and before it gets too hot.
Have any of you changed any travel or vacation plans because of all the stuff going on right now?

I think that is a smart and considerate move on your part. I would not leave my wife alone either.

My wife and I are going on a couple of hiking trips together this month. We have a couple of folks staying at our house to watch the cats and make sure it is secure.

We try not to let world events dictate our lives. We are going as planned. Just going to have the SA turned up a notch and avoid choke points and places where there could be demonstrations.

That is too bad that you don't feel that she would be safe if you left. It is sad how people think it is OK to break the law because of what happened. My wife and I were actually supposed to be on a cruise right now. We were able to use the 125% credit towards 2 cruises and because of the deals they had almost paid for both of them in full. My wife also cancelled a flight to see our son, DIL, and granddaughter.

Two of our sons and a friend are going camping and maybe a round of golf or 2 over a weekend in a few weeks and we have booked a room by a lake for a long weekend that my wife and I are taking our daughter and 2 grandkids to. I am looking forward to those 2 trips.

Fortunately we do not live near any big cities so rioting and looting should not be a problem. So far any protests even close to us have been very peaceful.

Wise choice, sir. With the kind of desperately stupid behavior going on all around, we have no real idea if anywhere is going to be spared.

A couple of ideas...

Drop her off here...

https://www.chisosmountainslodge.com/

Or here...Ft Davis TX

https://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/indian-lodge

Be aware that she might, just might want you to stay there as well! We have been to both places. Well worth a visit and excellent food on site with reasonable prices.

ORRR...You could let her stay a bit closer than Ft Davis here...Marfa TX At the Piasano, you can sleep in the bed where Elizabeth Taylor or Rock Hudson stayed during the filming of Giant.

IMHO all three places are better than climbing around with the rattlesnakes in 125 degree weather. Big Bend weather can be deadly at this time of year!

I forgot another one...Marathon, TX

And Ft Davis has had a boom of sorts...

You might forget about hiking after hiking around the old fort, which is the finest restored frontier fort in America.

We are heading to downtown houston this morning for an appointment - I’m a bit nervous about it but the two of us will be a force to be reckoned with, the .45’s are going with extra mags. Hopefully this time of day we will be ok. Our doctor loves his AR so won’t be surprised if it went to work with him. A Pakistani doctor with an AR going after antifa in downtown houston, gosh I’d pay to see that!

I'm vacationing this week in the "Black Hills" near Deadwood SD. We got here late Saturday afternoon, right about the time all this was breaking loose. My family is here so nothing at home but "stuff" still it's my stuff and if something were to go down in my neighborhood I would want to be there. So far it's been quiet in my St. Louis county neighborhood, St. Louis city is another story. My parents check on stuff at my house. I'm going to enjoy myself and not think about it too much.

It's nice to be in a place where all of this is little more than a curiosity to watch on tv. In that sence it's good to be away right now. Yesterday we saw Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and Custer State park. Today is a lazy day. The wife and son are going to hang around the cabin and maybe go into Deadwood and look at the tourist junk stores, I'm going to disappear on my motorcycle for a few hours.

My wife and I were in Lexington KY when the 2014 Ferguson riots began and had planned to go through the St Louis area to get home. After reading mobs had stopped traffic on I-70 we rerouted well south of the metro area. Stay alert of what's happening along your planned route and be flexible.

This past weekend my stepdaughter was driving to a friend's house in Houston and found herself on edge of turmoil near the downtown area, took an alternate route and was caught in a police road block. She said she couldn't back up because of traffic but once the marchers passed the intersection the cops opened the road block and she was able to pass through.

I've not been there since they built that. Looks crazy fun. We used to go sit in the bar in Lajitas, drink an ice cold Coke, and buy a beer for the resident goat. He was actually elected mayor of Lajitas. He has since passed away, I believe.

I just love this part of Texas. The people you meet are a real trip. Strange and eccentric folks i never tire of them.

You are a good husband OP. Protection is part of the vows we made to our spouses. No one knows where this is headed. Best stay prepared.

We have crossed a line as a society I think. Beginning to exceed the mayhem of the 60’s. I expect martial law soon if these democratic fools don’t get a handle on things.

I forgot to post a link to the saloon.

IIRC most of Lajitas is owned by folks here in Houston. And BTW, a note to golfers. Before he passed away, my dad and I played golf some. He always wanted to play in Lajitas. We went in August (stupid in the extreme). We played 5 or 6 holes and retreated to the shade. The course is right along the Rio Grande river and the temperature in the shade at the clubhouse was 127. That was enough golf.

I can barely leave the house due to COVID. Why would I be traveling anywhere to create civil unrest? I can create civil unrest in my own neighborhood, keeping people off my lawn.

We are just waiting for places to open up before we take a trip to the mountains. I am hoping to do it sometime in June.

Before the social distancing stuff happened we were planing a trip to the UK for a couple of months stay. Now we are looking at next year unless Europe opens up soon then we may go this year. Our December river cruise in Europe is still on the books and we are just waiting to see what heppens with it.

We had a trip to Idaho and another to Arizona planned when the virus shut everything down. The trips are on hold until things open up more. We prefer to travel in spring or early fall. I have been in Arizona in the summer with 122 degree temperature. I left footprints in the pavement crossing the street.

We are traveling soon to attend my niece's wedding out of state. My wife will be with me, so I don't have to worry about leaving her home. I will be taking along a CC for each of us, just in case.

We absolutely love it there, I assume you've meant the donkeys?
