Bought a slightly used Dan Wesson commander bobtail in 45acp a couple weeks ago...very nice condition, decent price. Supposedly had 200 rounds through it and looked good enough for that to be the case.

I've put 300 additional rounds through her and while accurate, it fails to eject about every 10-15 rounds, sometimes more often. This occurs with the stock DW magazine, a Wilson Combat 47D, and a Chip McCormick Powermag - so I think i can rule out mags. This occurs with a variety of ammo such as Winchester whitebox, Hornady XTP, and Speer (all 230gr)...all feed just fine, just dont eject well.

This is an external extractor, but so is my Kimber TLE/RL which just tends to hum along. Put a call in DW, but apparently they close at 3pm.

Anybody have experience with these guns or with Dan Wesson? Am I going to have problems being the second owner? Im sure a trip to a reputable gunsmith would get it under control, so I'm not giving up on it

Well that is surprising about a Dan Wesson. I don't have enough experience with a Dan Wesson to be able to give you a definitive answer about what is going on.

I will offer you this advice though, I would go to the 1911 forum, Dan Wesson thread and post your issue there as well, not that I don't think someone here can't help you but that the 1911 forum will have plenty of die hard DW folks to help along with a Mod there by the name of Dave Severns who is a wealth of knowledge and a gun smith as well specializing in the Dan Wessons.

Here's the link, http://www.1911forum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=52

You will have to sign up to post but if you are into the 1911's it is a great place to learn about them.

I have a Dan Wesson 10mm called the PTE-EXP (Patriot Experimental?). It also has an external extractor.

I've fired a few hundred rounds out of it with no bobbles or malfunctions at all.

I'd contact DW; the CZ/DW folks that I met at SHOT seemed to genuinely have the customer's best interests at heart.

I agree animal...can't see spending $2k on a gun i will actually shoot and carry around, but that's just me. If it's worth it to some, I say go for it. However, the DW bobtail seems pretty well put together...I will get it fixed and it will be carried when the bugs are worked out. Aside from the obvious issue here, it seems the equal of the Kimber and TRP for less money

I noticed that the rim on the casings extracted are kind of tore up...not sure how you adjust these things but I'll be calling Dan Wesson (CZ_USA) Monday to find out

By the way from what I have heard Dan Wesson uses LOTS of Ed Brown parts, and they are forged pieces for those who have a problem with MIM parts. I was all into getting a Ed Brown ,ended up buying a Para LTC to save the money. It's very nice but if I had thought about the Dan Wesson when I was getting the latest pistol I probaly would have gotten the Dan Wesson instead.

something else I've noticed ... the shells that do get extracted look like they are either being grabbed too deeply...slight gash on the casing and the rim is somewhat roughed up...tough to describe...I'm keeping a few to show a gunsmith if i can find a good one in the area
