I purchased some .45ACP 230 GDHP ammo a couple of weeks ago from TTI. From what I understand they only recently started selling to civilians. They've primarily been a military and LE supplier.

It seems to be very accurate ammo. I did some water tests on the ammo, and it seems to have some pretty good penetration as well. The tests were pretty crude, unfortunately, but it seems to penetrate about 11 inches with good expansion. I'll have to do some more tests before I can say with any certainty what it will do as far as penetration goes.

The ammo fed well in both my SA 1911 GI and my Taurus 24/7 Pro. I had a few problems with the 1911, but they were entirely my fault (it had been a while since I fired a 1911). I had zero problems in the Taurus.

They come in 50 round boxes, and I paid about $104 shipped for 250 rounds. It seemed like a good deal to me, and it was shipped quickly.

Has anyone else used this ammo before? If so, what did you think of it.

Sounds interesting.

Any idea what bullet they are using? And - any pics of water-test bullet results?

I guess $20 per 50 box and SD ammo is pretty darned competitive.

They are using the Gold Dot Hollow Point. This is the CCI/Speer bullet that a few have raved about.

The water tests I did were for my own personal data set. So, I didn't think about bringing a camera. But, I will be doing some more tests, as soon as I can and record what was done with the camera.

I found the ammo on Gunbroker, but the company can be found at www.ammosource.com. Here's a listing on Gunbroker: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=50196810. If you go through Gunbroker, you'll get a discount. I forget what it is, but any discount is better than none.

And I don't have any stake in the company. I was just really impressed with the performance of the ammo and the price I got them for.

Great and thx for extra info.

Well I have long been a fan of the Speer GD and in my own tests have been impressed with the very consistent and effective expansion.

My carry ammo is 124 JHP GD +P - has been for some time, tho I am getting more interested over time with DPX!

I saw the DPX thread, but the site you listed doesn't seem to work right now. I'll have to research it a bit.

But, the GD seem to be just fine. And at the price I'm getting them for, I'll stick with them for now.
