I still wonder how the US thinks they can stop China from taking Taiwan?
If and when they choose to make the move, we will not be able to stop them.
Unless an all out embargo of all trade with China is enacted. The chances of me regrowing my hair are more plausible

It would take a coalition of forces composed of Taiwan, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, other allies (possibly including the Philippines, South Korea, Viet Nam, and Indonesia) opposed to Chinese hegemony of the South/East China Seas. We would not alone be able to enforce an embargo, and it would likely harm us more than them.

Milley needs to make another phone call, this one informing his counterpart the moment their troops step foot on Taiwan, a few nukes are in bound to the Forbidden City and places thereabouts. Then we'll see how badly China want that island.

It does raise a lot of question .The smart thing to do would be to undo what Carter did in 79 and say Taiwan is china not china but heck will freeze over before then .At min there should a clear doc sign saying USA etc All will attack China if they hit Taiwan again heck freezing over I am afraid ..

As I keep saying we cant stop them they have enough rockets on there cost to sink our fleet before it can do anything catch 22 being this would lead to total war and prob the first use of nukes since the second war but with the current gov maybe not ...

Japan is getting more and more miltient they are tired of this crap just today they for the first time since ww2 had fixed winged aircraft on there Carriers when they hosted US f35 never mind they are one of the few countries that has the ability to in under a year to get a bunch of nukes if they wanted to never mind the ability to lauch and use them ..They know they are next if Tawian goes ... Yes there constition said no war making in so many word but the way it is going ...

But I fear no one has the stones any more for real war ugly nasty full comitment .... Our miltary is woke and de morilzied ..Sure the Aussie are game but same story tiny army they could not do much at all

Yep that is the only thing that will stop them is us saying you hit em we glass you .. But its not going to happen we have no more sercuirty treaties with Tawian not since 79

What should have happend back in the 70s when the Second Tawian strait crisis happened was the pres should had done what the generals wanted and glassed China to stop them ... Now they a lot more nukes then they did and they can hit us when back then is what 50-50 they had the range to do that

An aircraft carrier group could stop the Chi Coms, but it would have to use some nukes.

Theres my my easy answer to it. Most Americans probably don’t see it my way.

Water Cloud Sky Boat Watercraft

The subs that protect the carrier must have nukes on board. And, I figure that the carriers can be supplied with them, for aircraft strikes .

And yes, whenever China decides to make their move, nothing will deter them. Not even nukes will prevent an invasion of Taiwan, and it could turn into a nuclear war.

I'm not a navy man, much less a submarine man, but I thought attack subs protected fleets while the missile subs kept to themselves in hiding. I don't know.

The carriers have, or at least have the capability to have, air dropped nukes on board. I used to be a Nuclear Loading Officer and Nuclear Delivery Aircrew. There is usually only one fast attack sub with carrier air group. They are mostly to protect from enemy subs, but they can carry Tomahawk cruise missiles, which can have nuke warheads. But the nuke capability of a carrier group is limited.

Carrier groups would have a big role in protecting Taiwan in a conventional conflict, if we had the guts to use them, but if the engagement goes nuclear, they would not be ideal. That would be a role for ICBMS and SSBM subs.

My prediction is a very small report at the end of the nightly news, announcing that the Peoples Republic of China has peacefully repatriated a rebellious province to mainland control. After that, maybe a year or so of impassioned speeches at the UN General Assembly, probably followed by a general consensus of the world powers that this was an inevitable event that will result in greater stability in the region and reduced tensions in the area. The history of dictatorial excesses under the Chiang Kai Shek regime will be reported endlessly as proof of the need for the peace-living PRC government to rescue their wayward cousins from themselves.

Sunshine and lollipops for everyone.

And one of our subs just ran into something in the South China Sea while running submerged.

There were lots of U.S. troops in Taiwan the last time I was there in the early 1970s.

My info is dated, and from the Cold War days.

Attack subs had 3 main functions, and that may have changed in recent decades.

1. A hunter sub would shadow every Soviet missile sub with the mission to sink it ASAP if things went hot.
2. A killer sub would accompany each of our boomer subs to prevent Soviet subs from doing that to us.
3. Surface fleets would always have at least one attack sub escorting.
