I would think that it would be easier to smuggle weapons across the English channel than across the Atlantic. The article does mention that there are more guns available in the European black market than there are legit guns. Apparently, the old saying "when guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns" seems to hold true. Anyway, the article blames us for the UK violence issues instead of the outlaws in their own country.

We've told the Brits to piss off before, no reason we can't do it again.

In the past most of the guns in the UK came from either

1. Smuggled in from country like the former Yugo block , Wasar pact block . Often leftovers from the civil wars etc there
2. Latter a lot of "Demilled " or gas pistols etc from the EU were brought until this year each country set there own rules from what is demilled ..Some just said if the barrel was blocked and a few other things it counted as not a gun and could be sold over the counter .This has been mostly stopped but a lot of stuff comes from that . Also a lot of non lethal gas pistol were smuggled in and re barreled .These are sub caliber pistol made to only fire CS or rubber bullets etc ..Again often OTC or close in many places ..However many Russian ones and others did not have weaken frames so could handle full power loads if the barrel was re bored . So a lot of them turned up
3. I have seen a lot of "antique" pistol turn up in England basicly if it s some long out of use old round that has no commerical ammo you can get a handgun in it ..Stuff like Pin fire guns and the like ..But there have been some blokes who started to less then legally re load for that old stuff for the gangs ..They had a gangster shoot up a police chopper with a 101 year old french wheel gun a few years back

I have not heard much of USA smuggling ..Back in the bad times in Ireland a lot of the stuff came from the the USA but nothing latly ..Seems like a a longer route then say a car fariy from the EU

Edit I do see the chance as the EU cracked down more and more on antique and de milled guns that out side EU smuggling would go up but as the artical notes

"In the last few years, the National Crime Agency has found that gangs favor “cleaner” antique or deactivated weapons that are harder to trace. Those weapons are sold legally at gun shows or by collectors, many in the United States, and are easier to buy because they can only fire if they are illegally reactivated. "

Not just the Usa .. Uk and other countries allow antique handguns

If you look at British gun laws there is a list of not in use calibers that are allowed to own as hanguns and wheel guns ..However that is it you cant legally own or make ammo for said gun or you been in deep trouble .. Course it stills happens .....

They're still trying to impose their will on us. Tell them to get out their "Slang Dictionary for the Colonies" and look up "pound sand"!

Investigators have also seized American weapons being smuggled on a container ship and hidden in car engines.
"Dear, the check engine light is on. Can you see if you got all the guns out of it?"

...the illegal gun trade from America could accelerate, especially given the Trump administration’s broad support for the gun industry.
We legalize drugs because when we have a regulated drug market, it reduces the black market. Except guns. When you create a legal, regulated gun market, it increases the black market.

“If suddenly guns became the weapon of choice as opposed to a knife,” Mr. Prefect said, “we’d be in a really difficult situation.”
You sure would. Knives are still a far more popular choice for crime in the U.S. which has much broader legal gun ownership. If UK criminals come to prefer guns more than American criminals, you really ought to look at your rights for your law abiding citizens.

Everyone here is piling on the Brits, but if you read the article, it is clear that it is our own NY Times that's making this claim, not anyone in the UK. And the NY Times is making this claim even though they admit that most of the guns smuggled into the UK are from Europe.

Not since the Irish troubles has there been USA weapons smuggling in the UK.

The UK, EU and North Africa would all be under Nazi rule if not for our willingness to exercise our firearms proficiency in their defense. It was also useful for kicking those pukes out of our great country.
