Well I guess Obamy got another little thing going he probably didnt want since he seems to want to keep records.

Before all his nonsense and some states going communist regarding guns a lot here were all gung ho to go get their ccw permit. Now, thanks to the recent nonsense even though Feds passed nothing they not only lost interest but flat out refuse to get one.

Reason? Records. Its perfectly legal to buy and sell firearms here privately no FFL dealers involved no checks no nothing but money changing hands hence no paper trail on the firearm. And that is the way most here are getting what they want as far as firearms go. Especially now.

As far as CCW they flat out refuse to get one since that in itself puts them on paper as owning a firearm or in most cases firearms of several different types. And they now have no trust in the Feds as far as upholding the constitution and no intention of being disarmed by anyone by any means. Including forceably but they want to try to avoid that if allowed too.

I have one myself and have had since it was available. And since Im already on the radar because of it ill keep mine in force. But had I never had one before, Im not sure that I wouldnt be thinking like them. I know and explain to them that having the ccw doesnt prove they have a firearm since ours covers a host of weapons that otherwise are illegal to carry or even possess.

But it is what is. Tons here aint havin no part of no paper trail on their guns now. And CCW is that in a way. Darn shame the ones I know personally are great folks and looked forward to getting the ccw but theyd rather kiss a rattle snake now. :frown:

They should realize we have KRS that forbids releasing any list of owners of CCDW to anyone (including Feds) Considering KSP are the only ones with the list (only then for enforcement/suspension/revocation for felony convictions etc.) I really do not see much (if any) risk. Ky being VERY gun friendly and KSP not being known to break the law, I don't concern myself with them, the current "regime" is another story.

I have heard the same thing actually. I just tell them since your CCDW is not linked to any weapon, you took class, lost that pistol in boating accident and carry a knife, or brass knuckles etc. WHO would possibly know? :king:

^ as long as your state doesnt have a legal requirement to report lost or stolen firearms..

In MI, the local and state LE knows which pistols I own, as they are required to be registered... however, no one knows how many, if any long guns I own, or anybody else in this state. If they passed law tomorrow that said all rifles must be registered, lol.. suddenly I will have "none" to register. And there is no way to say otherwise.

As to CCW licenses, the risk of my local sheriffs office releasing those records is rediculously small, and not worth losing my ability to legally conceal my best means of defense.

I agree with the points made since the OP, as they do clarify a lot, but I think the OP's point was this: with all this talk of registration, UBC, etc., the unintended back lash that the Administration couldn't have counted on is a greater dependence on the off-line market, the same market that would bite them in the rear and makes UBC and gun registration useless anyways -- they've simply encouraged, fostered and accelerated that means to procure a gun.

In Wisconsin, a ccp doesn't mean you have a firearm. It means that you can go armed. That might be a knife, pepper spray or a taser. The gentlemen sitting next to me at my first CC training class was planning to carry an ice pick.

The more restrictive they make the laws concerning firearms, the more gun owners will work around them. A good example of this is shown by what happened during prohibition. People who were open and honest became law breakers. :icon_neutral:

It's perfectly understandable, now that the predator has shown its colors, oh so clearly.

Myself, I've been doing CHL for a long time. And I'll keep doing so, I believe. But I'm far more interested in finding my firearms via FTF purchases than ever, given the leftist-socialist gun-grabber realities, and given how weak-kneed the courts have largely shown themselves to be on the question of unconstitutional edicts by force.

Oh I totally understand folks being concerned and I have considered how easily I could go off the grid given the proper combination of events likely would instantly (well nearly), however with the "great Boston manhunt" I believe it is pretty obvious how they failed to handle one scared , wounded teen, with ALL that manpower on the ground- now just imagine them TRYING to contain a group of a few million (remember the NRA has 5 Million members and they don't have even a big % of the gun owners in the USA) many of whom our own military have trained and know their tactics etc. as well (or better) than the boots they put on the ground- I say they know they're bluffing (I have no doubts they are- whether they admit it or not)

Logistically it's impossible to go house to house searching for something they have no clue where they are, who has what etc. Obama and Holder saber rattling for their own amusement

THIS IS WHY they tried so hard to sneak the UBC in so they could get a de facto registration started up (illegally no less) and explains WHY Obama got SO irate when it failed the Dem controlled Senate- he expected the issue to be the GOP controlled House, and he could pressure and threaten them- he got squat and his agenda is dying

So does Missouri, but silly laws didn't stop the Dept of Revenue from sharing.

I went through this same thought process before I applied for a CWP. I do not trust the Fed (and especially SC state gov) to do the right thing. The last 5 years have proven to me what their intentions are, and they have the support of the minority of useful idiots to get it done by what ever trickery or slight of hand they feel necessary. We have already seen confiscation happen to folks in LA and NY, as well as publishing CWP info in newspapers! None of that is legal. History proves again and again that governments can and will disarm their populations. My only faith in the idea that this will not happen, is that Americans are a special breed, and my neighbors would come to my aid (and I to theirs) should door to door confiscation start.

I decided that I would rather risk it and carry for the sake of my family's safety.

I don't remember Listing my firearm make and model on my CPL paperwork. It's a license to carry if you purchase a firearm. Different strokes for different folks i guess.
Ya; so many Americans get the CCW or LTC just for something to display on their wall.
If they come for the guns, they will look to purchase records first and then quickly to the CCW holders as "probable cause" to "reasonably" believe you have a weapon.

C'mon people, unless you want to live in a cave, the Fed knows where to look.

Your friends obviously weren't serious about their concerns for their personal safety or they would not have been detered--or else they decided a tin hat was more important protection.

FL has a Concealed Weapons and Firearms License. Who's to say I'm not concealing something other than a firearm?

My thoughts are this they probably already know anything they want to know about you and if they don't I know they can easily and at the very least prob already assume you own one anyways.
If the govt can tell you the daily activity of some numb nut in a foreign country I'm sure they can do the same here easily and find out if you have a gun or not

While true, again it's a whole different (and much better ) system in Ky and MO will learn to obey the law once this and the law suits begin paying off.

Really? Please explain where these ILLEGAL records exist for the rest of us "not so smart" folks.....

When a FFL calls in , they say long gun or handgun NO other firearm information is given- so pray tell how do they KNOW what anyone has much less if they have sold it, lost in a fire or boating accident (not all states have a must report) .....you "don't need to live in a cave" you just have to be smart enough to not list information all over the 'net"

You mean how they knew the Boston bombers were up to something, or Tim McVeigh, or Lanza etc. etc. etc. ?

They have never took care of the gang bangers illegally armed, even I know this is a fact so I'm not too concerned they have some "network" of gun owners they are oh so willing to engage, some terrorist in another country takes a bunch of resources to monitor and "is worth it" no way could they even begin to keep up with the 5 million NRA membership (which is a small % of legal gun owners) They love for us to believe they have these "super powers" that they really don't have

When a gun shop closes, they have to turn over all their records to the BATF.
