White House gun control leads to soaring ‘patriot’ group memberships

The more the White House cracks down on Second Amendment freedoms, the more Americans are banding together and joining limited government — or even anti-government — organizations known as “patriot” groups.

That’s according to the Southern Poverty Law Center, which just released a report on the rising numbers of what it calls extremist groups. Within that category is a segment referred to anti-government patriot groups, The Associated Press reports. And that segment is growing — from 149 groups in 2008 to 1,360 today, AP reports. It grew 7 percent, to 1,274 groups, since 2011 alone, AP says.

Do we still live in the land our fore fathers had conceived of when they wrote what would become the backbone of our great nation?

Since the birth of our nation, countless men, women, as well as myself have spoken these words; "I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; These are more than words to anyone willing to offer up their life in essence as a blank check, telling the government you can cash it in when the need comes.

With the heated debate over assault weapons, background checks this way or that, and understandably so. I mean even I have weapons, and yes one is an m4 styled gas operated semi-automatic assault rifle, as well as a (CCDWL) carry concealed deadly weapon license. So requiring a background is no big deal and I see no issue, however when I happened upon a headline from washingtontimes.com that read: “Rep. Jan Schakowsky: More crackdowns coming, as 'I'm against handguns” (By Cheryl K. Chumley, The Washington Times, Monday, March 11, 2013). I had to read on.

Images of histories dictators past or the rule of an iron fisted king started flooding my mind, noting the irony that at that moment a commercial came on depicting Paul Revere shouting the RED COATS ARE COMING !

Then what I read next floored myself as I’m sure it must have done others,“Ms. Schakowsky also claimed a handgun ban was a possibility, despite the guarantees of the Second Amendment.”(By Cheryl K. Chumley, The Washington Times, Monday, March 11, 2013) That statement right there is a direct admission in conspiring to attack the very backbone of our nation in doing so dishonoring all the men and women who paid that ultimate price keeping that oath, that belief, those core freedoms given to all. The Oath; "I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
