I'd say the door has been open so darned long is ''has become'' as in ''is and continues to be'' - a proverbial back door.

The apathy and apparent complacency toward this over the last few years has seemed all but obscene IMO. TSA makes lawful traveller's lives hell - and yet this ''easy in'' still seems to exist on the border.

Seems a priorities problem exists!
