It's amazing how little wake you see in the video.

US Navy takes possession of its largest ever destroyer

"The US Navy took formal possession of its largest ever destroyer as the future USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000) changed hands from the Bath Iron Works shipyard in Maine. Billed as "the most technically complex and advanced warship the world has ever seen," the handover follows months of sea trials during which the first in its class, multi-mission land attack and littoral dominance warship was tested to certify its hull, mechanical, and electrical systems, propulsion, and anchor and mooring systems."

How much did this cost . Bet it will break down in 6 months . Or be knocked out of action by a 12 year old with a bottle rocket.

What ever happened to Kiss. I rather have 20 less complex smaller than 1 if hit is finished.

At what point does a destroyer become a cruiser?

Destroyers were not for "land attacks" but small, fast torpedo boats to escort and protect the larger capital ships.

Like everything else in the U.S. Government they don't know who they are or what they are supposed to be doing.

Meh. Let me know when they mount the rail gun for testing. I'll give them a list of coordinates they can use as targets.
I was just thinking it would be a perfect candidate for a rail gun or laser. That and it looks like it's not far from being submersible.

I was supposed to go check out the ship today to get familiar with it. Some folks on my project will be directly working on one of her systems but I'll be expected to support it. The kids (new engineers) who are working the project ended up going so I didn't.

That change in WWII with gun fire support for the troops and anti-aircraft. Their there to support the fleet in ASW and air and ground support.

Possible some sailor might un screw a plug or hit wrong button and it might just be a submersible.

This just makes me have so much faith in all this fancy equipment.

Drake said the reading comprehension project has resulted in examining other alternatives to combat recruits entering boot camp reading at or below the eighth grade level while technical manuals are written at the twelfth grade level. oops I meant to open door .not fire that rocket with nuke war head.

It looks like something that should fly over the audience with the pre-story line plot in a Star Wars movie.

Watching the video, it also sounds exactly like a helicopter when running, that has to confuse the heck out of the enemy too. :danceban:

Looks like the Navy now has their own version of the "stealth fighter."

After I left Nam, I got a Tin Can that was left over from WWII. 0571324.jpg And they let this old boy play with a twin 5''/38 gun mount. And I thought my twin 50's in Nam were bad! :image035:
