I learned today that there are congressional hearings going on about Russian past and current activity to influence veterans. I did some research on the subject and found several informative articles, and I report one herein. I believe that the Russians did interfere in out election, so I want to communicate this information to the Vets on this forum. Below is an opening quote from an article I found while researching what I had learned. It is followed by a link to the full article.

The same Russian "troll factories" that sought to influence the 2016 elections have continued to target service members, veterans and their families online with "hateful and divisive messages," according to a two-year investigative report by Vietnam Veterans of America.
"They're incredibly good at branding" and are seeking to "pit us against each other" in the military and veterans community, said Kristofer Goldsmith, VVA chief investigator and author of the 191-page report.

Former National Security Advisor and Secretary of State Condolezza Rice said in an interview that the Russians have meddled in our elections continuously since at least 1962, maybe longer. There is no evidence it has effected any outcomes or that they even favor one party or another. It seems they do it to prove they can and diminish Americans' faith in the the electoral process. It gets government officials to answer their phones when the Russian embassy calls. Nobody would even be talking about it now except that Hillary lost and the Dems had to find something to blame it on. But it has been happening pretty much our whole adult lives.

Many countries meddle in our elections. We meddle in many country's elections. Computers, the internet, and social media just make it easier.

Now we know Senator Joseph Raymond McCarthy was right about the communists and socialists infiltrating.

The difference now is that the communists and socialists are in the government and they are running hearings like McCarthy ran. Now the wrong answer is that you are NOT a communist or socialist.

:rolleyes:This is the boogey-man scare of the week from the MSM. The story changes nothing. It changes nothing.

Tech companies get hired all the time to do that, I have been part of some of those projects. There are thousands of contractors who have access to the data and there were before that law was passed.

The fact that Russia is now one of those thousands of contractors means little. Like all of those, if they get caught using the data for anything but what they have been hired for, everyone involved goes to prison and that contractor will never get hired again to do a similar project. Somebody still might do it, but having been involved in some of those projects, I can't see it ever being worth the risk for a major contractor or any of their employees.

This is a nothing burger story.

And he said that there were moles and fellow-travelers within the government. Sadly, his greatest failing was his failure to recognize the same among the vaunted "independent" media of the day.

And we have meddled in countless countries governments forever. Clinton is now calling an Army officer who is a Democratic presidential contender a "Russian Asset". Based on what? The fact that she has more centrist views than the rest of the field? And it is fact that the DNC was rigging the primaries in favor of Clinton. Were the Podesta emails released by Russia? Perhaps, but the Dems only want to focus on the fact that Russia (maybe) hacked the emails and not that they were denying their constituents a fair, impartial primary. I'm not saying the GOP is perfect by any leans, but I'm still perplexed by the lack of accountability when the DNC leadership was rigging the primary. We should expect foreign powers to be trying to infiltrate our elections. But, any citizens found to be tampering with our elections should be held to task.

the chairman of the house intelligence committee read a fake transcript of a phone call POTUS made to help gain support for impeachment. We go to other countries and decide for them what type of government they should have, and who should be in charge of it. I’m not too worried about some Russians posting memes on Facebook.

Referring to the your sentence that I set in bold that is the point. There is no proof that such efforts influenced an election. There s also no evidence that it did not.
The Vietnam Veterans of America study of the effort to influence veterans was not a result as some below have suggested motivated by Democrats, Hillary, the sp-called communists in government and society. I truly believe the Association did it study in the interested of Veterans. Those who wish to see the effort as some diabolical scheme are, in my not so humble opinion, off base. So be it.

I went into the polling place and voted. Nobody influenced me to vote one way or another. Last time I got stupid and allowed that, I voted for a Democratic peanut farmer. Never again!

Had anyone been dumb enough to try to influence my vote, I would have done as George C. Scott said in Patton...."Let me take my pistol out and shoot those sons of gooses!" At least I think thats close to what he said. :image035:

The only thing that influenced my last vote were the words of the worst losing candidate, which made me vote the next to last worst winning candidate.

VVA has discovered foreign entities targeting veterans for the purpose of interference in the 2020 presidential campaign. Admins from Macedonia and the United Kingdom controlled the page “Vets for Trump,” from April 2019 to August 2019, which has amassed over 131,000 followers. This page posts explicitly pro-Trump and anti-Democratic-candidate messages and memes. The page also posts pro-Russia/Putin, pro-Assange/WikiLeaks, as well as anti-Robert-Mueller and anti-FBI content. In terms of anti-Democrat content, the page has been primarily focused on attacking the top Democratic presidential candidates: Vice President Joe Biden, Senator Elizabeth Warren, and Senator Bernie Sanders, while also going after Congressman Beto O’Rourke, Senator Kamala Harris, Senator Cory Booker, and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. While previous reporting revealed in hearings held by committees such as the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) have focused primarily on paid ads by foreign elements – the unpaid, organic posts and comments that appear on pages like this have mostly escaped scrutiny, despite the fact that they have far greater influence because of their tendency to be copied and shared.

While under the control of foreign admins, “Vets for Trump” has also focused on fomenting hatred by using xenophobic and Islamophobic propaganda against the Democratic women of color who are freshmen in Congress. After creating incendiary posts about Representatives Ayanna Pressley, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, these foreign admins then connect them with propaganda to the 2020 Democratic candidates. These insidious tactics sow discord among Americans, providing fuel for conflict on a public forum between veterans sympathetic to the damaging, false message planted and Americans of other political persuasions.

The foreign admins are skilled and sophisticated enough to operate undetected by not only laypersons but those in political life as well: Followers of the “Vets for Trump” page include at least one elected Republican official who was a campaign surrogate of the Trump campaign during the 2016 election, as well as an individual who was the inaugural chairman of a veteran-centric GOP PAC closely tied to the White House.

This page had coordinated its behavior with a similarly named Facebook page, “Veterans for Donald Trump,” with identical content that was frequently posted at the same time from a mobile phone through at least April 3, 2019. Identical content was again posted on August 22. The “Veterans for Donald Trump” page currently has 14 domestic admins (with no foreign admins able to be seen).
I think they're going to have to do a bit better. This explanation indicates a website and Facebook page posts "pro-Trump" and anti-Democratic" messages, yet I see no links to those pages. Really guys? You did a "massive investigation" yet don't have a single link to a source to display? Lastly, the only known source of all this, whatever it really is, is by "operatives" in Macedonia and the UK. I had no idea those were under Russian control! I suspect most veterans know where those countries are.

I'd be interested to see where this organization gets its funding. Everything they list under "Recommended Action" must apply to them as well. There is a link to the "complete" report - all 192 pages in pdf form if you can't sleep.

I'm voting for whoever has an R next to their names. Who vets vote for is none of my business and if someone "influenced" their vote it's on them not whoever was influencing them.
