Was asked to leave a Cinemark theater
A friend and I decided to go see Law Abiding Citizen after attending a local 2nd Amendment organization Banquet. We were already open carrying from the Banquet so we didn't bother putting on our jackets. We made our way into the theater and stood in line to purchase our tickets, so far there wasn't any problems. I was OCing my 1911, my friend was OCing his G22, and we purchased our tickets and made our way to the theater so we could get good seats. As we near our theater two managers a male and female come out of nowhere and the conversation goes something like this,
*Note* I never had the chance to say anything and my friend spoke for the both of us, and the female manager was shaking so bad she couldn't speak
Manager:Excuse me guys but firearms are not allowed in here, you'll have to put them in your vehicle.
My friend: Really when did that happen, I've carried here many times with no problem, well we'd like to see your policy on that please!
Manager: Okay come with me
We followed the manager up to the ticket counter and he showed us this small cardboard sign that said "NO FIREARMS ALLOWED" at the very bottom. We told the manager that we wished to receive a full refund and we would not be returning to the theater in the future. He said nothing, and we were given our refunds with no further problems. We remained calm, polite, and professional throughout the whole thing and further panic was avoided. We ended up going to a shopping mall that has a theater inside and we were able to see our movie without being asked to leave.
Law Abiding Citizen was a pretty good film too!
I'll be writing Cinemark a nice letter explaining my views towards their no firearms policy.
This is indeed the slight inconvenience we put up with, but I really feel if enough people got behind this "no guns = no money" that businesses would change their policies real quick. However I don't see that happening anytime soon because most people are too lazy to take a stand.

Good for you guys for leaving. I have not had to leave anywhere yet, but I am prepared to. They can choose the rules on their property, but we choose where to spend our money.
Could be worse, you could live in NC which prevents you from carrying in any place that charges addmission!! STUPID!!!

I went to the same movie on Friday, OC'ing my G23, no problems. I've OC'd at that theater a bunch of times with no problem. It is also a Cinemark, maybe it's just a local thing..

Email sent and here it is. I am sadden to say that I will not be attending your theaters anymore. I do not support business that do support the second amendment. Two of my friends were asked to leave because they where caring firearms. These people are law abiding citizens that have been passed a background check and have spent a large sum of money for licensing and training. In today business how many customers can you afford to turn away? I will be happy to spend my money elsewhere.

Here's some information I just researched about the Cinemark Theaters. This is VERY large corporate chain of movie theaters. On their website they claim 2,700 screens in 13 countries in North & South America. This will be a challenge to change their corporate policy on a local level.
There are 7 Cinemark Theaters here in the Las Vegas area. In light of this anti-gun policy I don't plan on patronizing these theaters. You might want look up the theaters in your local area as well. If this corporation doesn't welcome us & our guns let's not give them our $$$ as well.
I will be sending corporate an email later as well. If we can get this large corporation to change their anit-gun policy that would be a victory on huge scale. I'm up for the challenge! How about the rest of you?

Hello I am emailing you in regards to a No Firearms policy that has been put in place at your Century 16 theater location in Anchorage Alaska. I went to this theater on 10/17/2009 to see Law Abiding Citizen with a friend of mine. We were both carrying legally obtained handguns that were properly holstered on our belts. Like many good, honest, law-abiding citizens we feel it is our right to protect ourselves wherever we go, because violent crimes take place anytime and anywhere. I know the laws of the state in which I reside and I have the professional firearms training and license to carry. The state of Alaska also allows anyone 21 years of age or older to carry firearms, given they have no criminal history and are not under the influence of any drugs and/or alcohol. Open carry is also legal in Alaska.
My friend and I were approached by two managers, a male and female. The male manager informed us that we could not have firearms in the theater and we need to leave them in our vehicle. My friend asked the manager when did the policy change, because he has carried at this location many times before with no issues. The manager was unable to provide an answer, and we were escorted to the ticket counter where the firearms policy was put on a cardboard sign. We requested a full refund and went to a Regal Cinemas theater to view the film.
I am not sure if this policy is corporate or if it varies from theater to theater. I am sorry to say that I will no longer be viewing films at this particular location because my right to protect myself has been denied at the Century 16 location in Anchorage Alaska. I will also make it a point to inform other law abiding gun owners that this policy will keep us from spending our hard earned money at your theater locations.
I also understand it is the right of any business to restrict what is allowed on their property. I will respect that and spend my money elsewhere that supports my right to defend myself and my loved ones.

I just sent an email message hitting on the points you you brought up in your email message. I added some of my own on what I hope are some very cogent thoughts on the impact of spreading the name of their corporate to other gun forums. Maybe we can get this corporation to change this anti-gun policy where it's legal to own firearms.

Not sure about your state, but here in MO those signs have to meet certain guidelines BY LAW. A little hand-written cardboard sign won't cut it.

Amazing, that some of the management was "shaking" due to being so fearful. They simply cannot understand that you are the GOOD guys, that you are no more likely to spontaneously combust (blow sideways and commit a violent criminal act) than the shoes they put on that day.
They simply won't accept that the only indicator of criminality they're going to get from criminals, or they've ever gotten, is specific violent/antisocial behavior by criminals as they explode. Without that bad behavior, a given person is simply another citizen. And as an official card-carrying GG, you're documented to be a member of a group of people known to be far more upstanding, statistically speaking, than people in general.

Here is a link for bussiness cards that we carry here in Kansas. One of our members made them and maintains them on this site. There are Ks. Mo. Specific and a Generic card for other states. When we run into a situation like this we do the same thing and hand them our "Bussiness card". It has been relitively successful at getting signs removed. We also maintain a database on the Kansas Concealed Carry site, that list bussinesses that are posted and tell the folks we give cards to that we will post their bussiniss inthe database so the other CCW members don't violate their policy.
