Was asked to leave a Cinemark theater

A friend and I decided to go see Law Abiding Citizen after attending a local 2nd Amendment organization Banquet. We were already open carrying from the Banquet so we didn't bother putting on our jackets. We made our way into the theater and stood in line to purchase our tickets, so far there wasn't any problems. I was OCing my 1911, my friend was OCing his G22, and we purchased our tickets and made our way to the theater so we could get good seats. As we near our theater two managers a male and female come out of nowhere and the conversation goes something like this,

*Note* I never had the chance to say anything and my friend spoke for the both of us, and the female manager was shaking so bad she couldn't speak

Manager:Excuse me guys but firearms are not allowed in here, you'll have to put them in your vehicle.

My friend: Really when did that happen, I've carried here many times with no problem, well we'd like to see your policy on that please!

Manager: Okay come with me

We followed the manager up to the ticket counter and he showed us this small cardboard sign that said "NO FIREARMS ALLOWED" at the very bottom. We told the manager that we wished to receive a full refund and we would not be returning to the theater in the future. He said nothing, and we were given our refunds with no further problems. We remained calm, polite, and professional throughout the whole thing and further panic was avoided. We ended up going to a shopping mall that has a theater inside and we were able to see our movie without being asked to leave.

Law Abiding Citizen was a pretty good film too!

I'll be writing Cinemark a nice letter explaining my views towards their no firearms policy.

This is indeed the slight inconvenience we put up with, but I really feel if enough people got behind this "no guns = no money" that businesses would change their policies real quick. However I don't see that happening anytime soon because most people are too lazy to take a stand.

oh oh me me,, pick me...
I dood it!, not that they have any theaters in Arizona, but screw their Costco BS
Just sent them a thought provoking email. I hope it helps.
Could be worse, you could live in NC which prevents you from carrying in any place that charges addmission!! STUPID!!!

NCH
I second that NCHornet!!
I think I may take a minute of my time to go directly to the Century 16 theatre and talk to the management myself. I also think that I will be OC'ing when I do.

Please update with their response when you do!
apparently, this is a new policy. i usd to go to the Cinemark Theater in my area often, and usually OCing. i was only approached once, by "security" (a fat guy with a flashlight), but i wasn't asked to leave. a few months back, an associate of mine reported they'd put up 'No Firearms' signs. no problem; i can always lift my shirt or jacket over my holster.
Not sure about your state, but here in MO those signs have to meet certain guidelines BY LAW. A little hand-written cardboard sign won't cut it.
Mo. is not an OC state, so they wouldn't have seen your guns anyway.
Missouri is an OC state, but local governments can ban OC as state law does not preempt local OC laws like it does CC.

Cinemark - ..........................Done..........................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1:aargh4:
Regal Entertainment is the same way, they have a real small poster on the doors and you can bearly see no gun zone.Iguess it didn't work as well as they had hoped,so they resorted to putting it on the opening advertisments!
Alls well end well !
While this is a OC related thread, has it ever been clarified if they can apply the notice to to CC?

Here in MI, it is slightly unclear if you can CC at a movie theater. Many state you can, and that is my understanding. What has not been clear is if you can CC if there is a no firearms sign.

There is a UA near me (and a few other theaters) that have a no firearms policy, and several CC permit holders I know have stated there is nothing they (UA) can do to hold you to that policy if you are a CC permit holder (at least in MI). I'm not 100% sure of this, but I understand the argument.

I've desided I don't want to frequent an establishment that would possibly make it an issue (just because I don't want to provide support).

However, this has left me with only one movie theater nearby that I can go to. Since I don't like to share with people I CC, has made difficult some social interactions when friends call to see if I want to go watch a movie somewhere else.

Isn't it amazing how a gun strikes such fear in someopne, and when she get off work she'll drive away in her car, which kill far more people every year than a gun.

She'll drive away in her car if she isn't kidnapped and raped/murdered on the walk to her car, "feeling safe" because she doesn't see guns. For her sake, let's hope she isn't inconvenienced.:frown::aargh4:

No worries, I'm sure the mall has unarmed security to save her.

You may understand the arguement but I certainly don't. A sign which says No Firearms means just that. No firearms. It doesn't have to specify, pistols, revlovers or rifles. It doesn't have to say whether it's holstered or shoved into your belt mexican style. It doesn't have to say open carried or concealed. It's simple. No firearms at all. It may not have the force of law or result in you loosing your permit but if you are concealing and someone suspects you are carrying and an employee finds out you can be escorted out for violating a theater policy and you may be banned permantly from the property. If you return in the future the police could be called and you could be charged with trespassing. It's like a No Parking sign. Are you going to argue that it only applies to cars but not your Honda Goldwing motorcycle? No. It's the same with the No Firearms signs. If you friends are still concealing and carrying into those business which have posted with these signs they are simply Wrong.

Cinemark, like Regal have a "no (legal) guns" policy. They have miniscule signs. I know they are there so I just don't bother to frequent those establishments. This is a PERFECT example of the security at a Cinemark Theater. Gunman killing at least 12 people and injuring at least 50, police said.

Mass Shooting at Colo. Movie Theater, 12 People Dead - Yahoo!
This is a PERFECT example of the security at ...
... anyplace that relies upon signage only to implore criminals to take their crimes elsewhere. Tragically, it also keeps lawful, upstanding citizens from being able to effectively defend themselves or anyone else.

What is wrong with you?

Everyone knows signs stop bad activity.

Speed limit signs prevent speeding.
Don't Walk signs stop people from walking against the lights.
One Way signs ensure no one ever goes the wrong way.
No Littering signs stop people from tossing their trash.
Stop signs keep people from rolling through those intersections.

(sarcasm off)

People who obey signs don't tend to kill people.

NC is so restrictive about where you can and can't carry (signs pre-empt rights here) about the only places I go where I can legally carry outside the home are the state park abutting my property where I walk my dog and the grocery store, which doesn't post. And WalMart, but I only go there when I'm out of ammo. :embarassed:
