I've been watching for it, as well. I do not sell any Spydercos, but the sporting goods store where I sharpen carries a limited amount of their line. I was glad to see they carry the models in VG-10.

I think this is a good idea if the model you like does not come in an 'assisted' version, or if you cannot carry an auto. I have not had trouble opening Spydercos with a large hole even without the wave feature.

I had a Emerson Commander, the bigger one, and my only concern was making it 'go' when it should have, and vice versa.

I practiced with the knife. Sometimes it opened 'half way,' but you didn't know that until you 'presented' the knife in your line of sight. Sometimes it didn't open at all.

One time I took the knife out of my pocket for some mundane chore where speed was not an issue, and I found the knife 3/4's open and I almost cut myself.

There's a learning curve here, and it's your obligation to practice.

I never liked the 'chisel grind' feature, to boot. My friend wanted the knife, and it was sold quickly. It was just not my knife.
