I have two boxes of 9mm critical defense, two of hydra-shok 135 gr, one of critical duty, and one of Speer 124 gr +P JHPs. Went with Speer. Confident with my decision, just curious what you people use.

9mm 124gr Speer gold dot in my carry. 45 auto 230gr gold dot night stand gun. I like the bonded gold dots.

Wife runs gold dot 9mm, but in 115gr due to her XD subcompact having a 3" barrel. Need enough velocity to improve reliable expansion.

Loaded mag has 9mm Critical Defense. My two back up mags have Winchester 147 gr JHP's. If I need more and have time to reload, there plenty of practice ammo around.

Almost exclusively Fed HST in the serious automatics - 230 in the .45, 124 +P in the 9mm.

For the .38 revolvers, 158 gr LSWC-HP +P, the current supply also happens to be Federal.

Speer is a great choice.. I use HST 147 or 124gr SP. Speer always seems to do well in the ballistics tests I have seen and Just fyi, the Hydra shok did poorly in the ballistics tests.

In 9mm, HST did very well in all load variations..

Well the Hydra-Shoks were gifted to me a while ago, and while I was thankful for the thought, it was never in any kind of serious contention for my defense round, for the reasons you mentioned. I included it in my list because technically they ARE defense rounds, albeit outdated ones. I've yet to get any of the HSTs, but have been meaning to pick up a box if I can find them. I'd prefer to buy boxes of 50 rounds rather than 20, as I did with the Speer.
