Hi all,
I am new to this forum, just signed up today, but it was because of one of the local holster makers, here at the forum.

I made this holster a few months ago, I have made a few before this, and wanted to know what everyone thought.

Please let me know, any criticisms or help would be very helpful. I have been having issues with getting the dye even, so this is the first one that seemed to work out OK.

Let me know.

Hey welcome, glad to have new meat on the boards.

As to your holster, it is almost just like a Cross Breed holster http://www.crossbreedholsters.com/ check them out.

Pretty good job on it though for a home made deal. How does it perform and work for you? I see a lack of a cant that I would like to see on a holster for myself but that's just me.

Nice looking rig but very similar to the Cross Breed and one other makers holster I saw on E-bay. Personally, I don't like the clip attachment and kydex/leather combo. Prefer all leather myself but if the price was right?

I have a few plastic holsters, I prefer all leather. But it looks as if you did a very fine job on that one. Keep at it and let us see what you do.

This holster was made for my wife, so the cant was specifically what she wanted. What I have been doing is telling people to up the gun in their waist band and trace the hammer area and the guns grip on a piece of pager, then use a protractor and give me the angle that works best for them. This insures that the holster will fit right for them, as well as gives me the depth they want the holster.

My wife uses hers every day, all day long. She says that she forgets she has it on most of the time. She even took it into one of the banks she goes to, which would not be an issue if it was for the fact that the bank does not allow guns! She was very sheepish.

I have been selling them for $68.00 I have sold a few, and everyone loves them. Not sure if it is too high or too low.

On a Rool

Ok, Since I seem to be on a posting roll, here is another holster I made. I got the idea, again, from my wife who wanted to carry extra ammo, as if 11 rounds was not enough.

Let me know what you think.

Now that is interesting i like it ..

Only thing i would suggest is close the end of the mag holder up so you don't have to worry about bullet shift

Hey welcome to the forum! :beerchug:.

Interesting ideas you have. I've been toying with the idea of "rolling my own" too. How long did it take you to make your first one?

Well, considering you have just started making them and have not perfected a specific holster I do think $68.00 is high considering one can get a SG Gary Brommeland Max-Con V for the low price of $69.95. This is a proven holster made by one of the top makers in the business. I think he told me it took about 10 years to perfect the Max-Con V. here is a link to it so you can read up on it if you want! http://www.combatcarry.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=9430

This is to give you an idea of were your pricing is compared to others. Another example is the Cross Breed holster like the first one you posted can be gotten for $44.00 so it would be hard (I would think) to sell them for the $68.00 price range your at to an educated holster customer that knows what's available to them from the top pro holster makers. But what the heck, if you can get it, sell them all day long. I just wanted to give you a couple examples regarding holster price point and how long these guy's have been making them and have the equipment, facilities and overhead to think about.

Welcome to the forum! Those are some good looking holsters. I was thinking the other day that a good cross with the comfort and asthetics of leather and the speed of kydex would be interesting. Have you tried to make something totally leather on the outside with the kydex as a lining? Not even sure if that would work.

Thanks for the comments.

TI:

I know what you mean. I have sold most of them for around $50.00 to friends and family, but the ones I sold to people I don't know were for $68.00.

The thing I don't understand is how the big guys can sell the holsters for as little as they do, with all of the over head and equipment. I have a sewing machine, $1400.00 and a few hundred in tools, but that is it. The issue is that it takes me a few hours to make each holster.

I have tried to limit the amount of time but each time I do, the fit becomes loose. My holsters are very tight and are made so they have good retention. If you pull the gun out with a forward pull, or a backward pull the gun will not come out. It will only draw if it is pulled out securely and directly from the direction of the holster. It took me a few months to get it right, but I think I got it.

I know I am, for lack of a better word, against the pro's that have been doing this for some time. I have however had my holsters compared to holsters made by Milt Sparks and a few others, and all who have tried them say they seem to feel much better and work better.

I have a mold for a 1911, Berretta 92, and a Glock 21, and Spring Field XD 9 Compact, and would love to make a few to be passed around and tried out. Let me know if anyone is interested in evaluating a holster. You could have it for a few weeks, and if you decided to keep it, just pay for the material, around $25.00

I can also make it for other hand guns, but I would need to get the mold.

PM me if interested.

Thanks

TonyW,
I am working on one right now. I have not had luck, but the one I am working on right now looks like it will work. I will post pics of it when it is done.

Volume! The top makers have 14-16-18 even at times 20 week turn around times due to the amount of orders they have to make. That is saying a lot about the makers with waiting periods sucj as that.

That said I will give one of your holsters a shot, PM being sent.

Nice. I have made a few kydex rigs on my own. I add a cant and trim the trigger guard portion back near where it meets the grip so I can get a better grip before drawing the gun. Also agree on the closed bottom of the mag carrier.

Not a bad looking rig

I think you are on to something asking your customers for a diagram so they can set their own cant. I waited 12 weeks for a holster from one of the well known names and they would not alter the cant for me. The standard 15 degree is a bit much much for my body style. Good luck with everything!
