I'm looking into joining the coast guard and ran into an article about them switching their standard issue pistol from the Beretta to the Sig P229 DAK. What does DAK stand for?

Double Action Kellerman. It's a double action only trigger system with an initial pull weight (hammer down, and will really only be used when shooting for a second strike on a failed round, a sort of quarter cock with another pull weight when a round is chambered, and a third pull weight at half reset that will still cock and drop the hammer.

I've got a P229 DAK and love it. It's very smooth.

That was really interesting read... I wasn't sure what it meant, either...

My EDC is P220 SAS (SIG Anti-Snag) DAK (Double Action Kellerman) .45 ACP.

Love it.

Very Wheel Gun like operation -- no safeties, de-cocking, etc for old muscle memory to kick in on or adrenaline rush confound.

As always, YMMV
