I have a pair of shotguns - A Mossberg 500 and an Escort.

Saw this special today and placed an order for a case (and then I thought to ask for opinions after the fact, of course)

12 ga Ammo For Sale - 2-3/4" 00 Buck 9 Pellet Ammunition by Sellier & Bellot

These days, is this a good value on 2.75 00 9 pellet buck? 55 cents per shell.

I don't do any hunting, just HD and target practice.

Would slugs be a better choice? All of these variations in shell size have my head spinning.

That seems like a fair price to me. If you don't buy in bulk, they are usually $1/shell, at least in my neck of the woods.

IMO, buck shot is much better for home defense than a slug, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to have some of each on hand. If for some unforeseen reason you needed to take a shot beyond 25 yards (unlikely, but it could happen), slugs are much more potent and reliable. Also, slugs are fun to shoot.

I think you did fine. S&B ammo is good stuff, btw. I DO think you need both slugs & buck though. You could load your guns with one, have the other in a sidesaddle. Prolly load with buck, have slugs at hand.
