Hi guys,

Next month im going to get a new g27 and im not sure if i should carry what i carry in my g22 which is 180gr. gold dots or go with a lighter bullet.Do you guys think that id get good expansion with the 180gr. bullets out of the shorter barrel or should i go with the 155gr. loads.

Thanks, HARDCORE

Any of the diffrent bullet weights and designs should reliably expand. You might be more concerned with recoil controlability and fast follow up. Try some diffrent loads and see what works best/handles best/ is most accurate.
Welcome to the site.
Welcome, I was starting to think the Army guys were gonna outnumber us, but I think we're giving them a run.

I keep saying I'm going to try Corbon DPX. It looks like some lethal, mean stuff. Their Powerball looks pretty good too, if you have feed problems, but not likely with the Glock.
Any of them will expand just fine... in my 10mm im carry Corbon Powerball right now
I've settled on 165 grain Gold Dots, Hydrashoks, and plan to try out Gold Dots. Works for me.
expansion requires speed. typically i recommend a lighter, faster bullet in any shorter barrel.
Thanks for the welcome and the replys guys. I really like the power balls for my Keltec p-3at but love the Gold dots out of my g22. I'll have to wait till i get the g27 and see what it likes best. Hopefully i'll get that w-2 soon from work and than i'll be good to go. I've been hinting on getting another 1911 to go with the Glock but the wife just gives me the look,if you know what i mean. Maybe i'll just have to settle on a case of ammo instead. LOL
Hey jar head,Semper fi brother, were always out numbered but us Marines always stick together right ,LOL. Actually where i work theirs 7 vets in my department and 4 of us are Marines. Figure that one.

Thanks again, HARDCORE

1 more Marine here!

I don't use 180grainers, I stick to 165 & 155's.
Whichever works best for you in your gun. Personaly I carry 165 gr or 155 gr Gold Dots. This is coming from another Leather Neck.
Im not trying to be a smart ass here, but rule of thumb is whatever fits and is on sale. Anything thats brand name, factory new, jacketed and preferably expands.
If its ever needed, I'll bet your target will never know the difference....
The best ballistics I have EVER seen is from the Ranger SXT line.

Hey, the marines are looking for a few good men, right? Well, you're supposed to be FEW dagnabbit...but you're good. I like the usmc (you really DON'T want to know what I think that really stands for)...ya got the prettiest uniforms (especially in the officer ranks), you're great shots and your Gunny's provide endless amusement on the History Channel! Don't complain. WE don't have anything remotely resembling R. Lee Ermey!

I like the PowerBall load for my Glock M27 but I also load MagSafe and Hydr-Shok 165gr rds, too. I'm in South Florida, so I think the MagSafe will be effective year round. When I move out of state, I'll probably leave those to the summers only. I also have some rather unique RBCD loads for my 40. Check out their website:

http://www.rbcd.net Look at the pics especially. These ain't cheap either, but I found some boxes at a gun show for much less than retail.

I have a relatively new G27 also. So far, I have used 180 grain, JHPs for the carry-load and FMJ at the range.

I guess I'm a size-chauvinist, because I use 230 grain in the G21.

I wonder why the .40 has a flat nose, even on the FMJs. At the range, I fire some JHPs and more FMJs. With the .45s, I can easily distinguish the neatly circular JHP holes in the target from the more irregular FMJ holes. But the .40 holes are all the same...

I wonder this also, No other Auto besides 10mm and 40 Short and Weak use a flapoint . Not even oddballs like the 400 corbon use a flatpoint ..

I'd be intersted in finding out.

On one occasion, I successfully defended my life and many others, for 10 months and 16 days straight in Beirut, with a govt. issued turd and rationed ammo supplied by the lowest bidders the U.S. could possibly find.

I have a feeling you will be just fine carrying a full magazine of any good quality ammo while walking across your local mall parking lot...

Thank you for your service. I have a buddy who was a SEAL in Beirut. Matthew J. Bracken. He is now an author and has written an outstanding book he self published and sold online. I suspect you'd LOVE this book:
Check this out http://www.EnemiesForeignAndDomestic.com You can actually read half the novel FREE online! That's about 250 pages. It will be a trilogy and I understand book #2 is nearly done.
I may actually make this a thread....
ExSoldier762, thank you for your respect.

my service is irrelevant to this discussion, as is yours. using it in an effort to preach from an exhalted position does us both a diservice.

it either meets specifications or it doesnt. if it meets specifications it is deemed fit for duty and it will provide excellent reliability. if it doesnt meet specifications it ends up here where it will still provide excellent reliability. of all the thousands of rounds ive fired while serving as well as 50,000+ rounds of the reject ammo ive fired as a civilian, ive never experienced an ammunition related failure to feed or fire. i completely disagree with your implication that military ammunition is somehow sub-standard.

spare me your "i was in combat, you walk across the mall" condescension. ive made many statements about the overall quality of premium ammuntion....but "whatever is on sale" just isnt good enough for me. its a personal choice we make when we decide what round to carry. you stated yours, i stated mine.....no need to make it anything more.
