Why does America lose its head over 'terror' but ignore its daily gun deaths? | Michael Cohen | Comment is free | The Observer

This article just makes me steam:

"At the same time that investigators were in the midst of a high-profile manhunt for the marathon bombers that ended on Friday evening, 38 more Americans – with little fanfare – died from gun violence."

The Guardian couldn't find a gun angle for the Boston bombings, so it made its own angle. This response from a British citizen puts them in their place:

"America doesn't ignore anything. But unlike us it doesn't throw the baby away with the bath water. Why would it throw away its constitution just because a few inner-city folk can't behave themselves. As for the rest of this silly article, you more than anyone should know how newsworthiness works. Nothing to do with numbers. If it did you'd be jumping up and down about the 2000 people who died today because of lack of food in places you're not interested in."

Interesting article, but it is too strewn about. The only theme is "Americans are irrational" because the article goes from terrorists, to guns, to background checks, to Obamacare and the big 4 killers (heart disease, cancer, . . .). Although I will say he makes a decent point about Boston overreacting and the complete shutdown of the city.

But his main point is that we need even more intrusion into our lives by even more government control such as Great Britain enjoys.

Why does America lose its head over "terror" but ignore daily gun deaths ?

We as a society have become callous the the daily kiilings seen across the country. It happens so much so people give it little thought unless it happen to effect them directly. BUT, BOOOOM, and the nation cries and rightfully so. It is an attack on what's left of our once great society, and people know it. Our government is slow to react as we are so boggled down procedures. I believe in due process, but does anyone truly remember when the Fort Hood killings occurrred ? November 2009 and this issue is stillpending. Why ? No exuse for it ! Due peocess doesn't take 3 1/2 years !

Why ? The government runs the country not the people through the government.

For a Brit to come to our defense was pretty shocking! Jolly good, old chap! Cheerio!
There are many Brits who envy the USA's rights to bear arms and defend ourselves. They're not all like Piers Morgan. Far from it...

The UK is currently living the path that the US is heading toward. Many Brits are fed up with it and will rally to the aid of those Americans who stand up against "government security".

The answer to this is really very obvious, the only difference is how the news media and LE react towards it.

Thanks, British subject, from the comments on that article's site! Tossing the baby out with the bath water certainly isn't high on the list of things to do today, or any other day, at least not until ~500 temporarily-hired staff on an unconstitutional rampage get into the game, at which point I'd have few problems with tossing them out the window.

From the brainwashing said:
"At the same time that investigators were in the midst of a high-profile manhunt for the marathon bombers that ended on Friday evening, 38 more Americans – with little fanfare – died from gun violence."
Fixed version of this brainwashing said:
"At the same time that investigators were in the midst of a high-profile manhunt for the marathon bombers that ended on Friday evening, 38 more Americans – with little fanfare – were killed by criminals choosing to criminally misuse lawful products as weapons of murder."
Fixed it.

The better questions are why does America continue to grant visa access for travelers from known Islamic terrorist countries? Why does America continue to provide loans and other forms of financial assistance to countries that actively work against the health and safety of our citizens. These are the questions that need to be asked.

I wonder how many of those 2000 deaths were inner city drug dealers shooting each other in cities with the most restrictions. Heck thats just modern natural selection.

Because its ok if they die here and there in a cumulative way, but not in groups?

It doesn't reflect well on the resident politicians since most of the gun violence occurs in the areas of the strictest gun laws.

You're right, it doesn't seem to phase them in the least. Viewed another way, why should facts get in the way of a good power-grab and stuffing of the citizenry?
