Brief article:

(Language warning)
Video of incident:

Short version (including racial descriptions because this is now "white woman pulls gun on black family" narrative in most headlines):

Black teenage girl and white woman bump into each other.
Teen demands apology, teen's mother gets into fray
Teen's mother calls white woman racist
White woman gets in car, tries to leave
White woman gets pissed for being called a racist
Teen blocks car
White woman gets out of car with gun drawn.

White gal and husband now arrested, facing up to four years in prison:

Take aways, in no particular order:
1) Does not appear gun was needed, could have called cops
2) Charge seems politically motivated - 4 years for both? Seems steep; but there's not equal justice today.
3) The teen's blocking of the car may have been a crime - false imprisonment, perhaps (she will not be charged)
4) Keep you head cool, people are trying to escalate confrontations now
5) Related to #1 and #4 - Don't Panic
6) I'm sick of this racial crap. We're all Americans.

What they are ignoring is the whole incident started over an entitled teenager demanding an apology for being bumped the mommy has to jump in shouting “racist” and “ignorant”. Granted a gun was not needed but the whole is backwards who the initial aggressor was.

Frustrating to say the least for the people in the vehicle. Yet, totally stupid. I do not see a need to pull a gun in this situation. Poor judgment by all.

I agree. But the end result is is that the aggressor did not IMO present a reasonable threat to the lady that pulled the gun on her.

The term entitled comes to mind here - you can figure out who I'm talking about. The gun should have remained stored. Neither showed common sense. In today's world every glance, and up, is an offense to some.

They were trying to block her exit. I suppose she could have ran the lady over instead of drawing her gun but the end result produces the same justification.

Based on the video alone we don't know if the white woman stepped out of the car or if the black woman opened her door. On top of that the black woman says "I'll beat your fing ass" while the camera is turned away. Compound that with the fact that the younger woman came running towards the confrontation and IMO you have an argument for fear of great bodily harm.

It appears that the woman with the gun chambered a round--just like in the movies. She hadn't been carrying with a chambered round. (I'm assuming she had been carrying, though she in fact might have retrieved her gun from her car.)

Does her husband have a handgun, too? I can't tell for sure.

ETA: Good trigger/finger discipline, though.

Politics and race determine the outcome in today's world. Facts and laws are viewed through that prism.

I've seen the full video. The couple was treated badly. Very badly, and the two black women threatening them were extremely irate. The couple was indeed attempting to leave to de-escalate things. Had the two angry black women just used common sense and let the couple leave the firearm would not have been pulled out.

The actions of the two black women forced the escalation to occur. The drawing of the firearm was justified, and needed. Look at the recent incidents where white people have been beaten badly by mobs. I would have pulled a gun. No question about it. I can' see any other means to resolve the situation safely for the couple, outside of an ugly choice of running the black women over, which had no peaceful path of resolution.

The charges are not warranted. Hopefully no jury will find them guilty.

I always thought that "An armed society is a polite society". I guess I was wrong.
I don't know what the black people did but I don't think it warranted pulling a gun.
I only draw when I KNOW I'm going to shoot.

I agree and disagree with you on different points. 1) Agree: The white couple were trying to leave and de-escalate the situation. The person that slapped their car did create a provocation. The white couple should have just left the scene with the bruised ego that they did not get the last word. 2) Nonetheless, I disagree that it was necessity to draw a gun. Slapping their car did not put anyone in immediate threat of bodily harm. This is why the couple are being charged. If there is a black person on the jury, this couple will be toast.

This is why I am embarrassed to leave my house. I have spent my life focusing on being a man and not a black man.
All these folks calling racism are screaming without thinking at all, much like a spoiled, rotten child. As there is no reasonableness from the outset, I would expect, as a reasonable person, that things will escalate quickly to the point of someone being hurt, potentially severely.

While one can demand an apology, there can be no expectation of reciprocation.

I am reminded of the shift during the 70's when a child might have been chastised by their elementary school teacher for bad behavior (I did not use the word 'disruptive'). The follow-up, at least in Boston, was parents would seek out and assault the young teacher on behalf of the story as told to them by their child. These were not parent/teacher conversations that escalated. They were attacked as they tried to get to their cars. So much so, that the school where my mother taught, among others, had armed security escorts in the elementary school parking lots.

This was the school administration response. Instead of backing the teachers and working with or going after bad parents and poor children behavior, they acquiesced and simply guarded the teachers. This is an action that encourages bad behavior through passive response. This is not a bad child, but a horrific parent. As the saying goes, 'Time to break the cycle of violence'.
