I have a Glock 22 and love it, but it is too big for CCW. I want something smaller and am considering a G23 or G30. Naturally, money is an issue, so I will probably have to sell the G22 to get what I want. How would you feel about letting go of a gun you love to get another one that fit the bill better?

The other option would be to save up for the new gun. Consider that most people have a few "vices" that could be given up for a month or two, what might you be willing to give up until you have saved enough?

A dinner home instead of out?
A few less "Beers with the Guys"?
Cut down on a trip or two with the P/U? For me, I could save at least $50-$60 per week in gas alone.

Give it some thought. In the end you will possibly have both guns.

Don't do it, save up for the next gun. You end up losing money in the long run, cause you're gonna have to buy a replacement sometime in the future if you really love that gun. And according to Murphy that one just won't shoot as well as the first.

I've traded or sold guns that I was not pleased with, and didn't regret it for a minute...The few times I've gotten rid of guns that I really liked, I've never stopped regretting it.

It's been said - better to wait and manage with the 22 somehow and save like crazy - do a layaway or something too to secure what you do like.

There is only one gun I ever sold which does not leave me regretful (all other few sold do)- and it was my P3AT - simply not needed and did not suit me. R9 took its place anyways.

First things first.. Thanks for the input from all of you.:wave:

I do have another full size gun to carry(SA-XD 45 T) as well as a small pocket gun (KT P11) for deep carry. Since I bought the XD, I feel I really don't need two full frame guns and I'm definitely not selling the XD, so maybe the Glock needs to go. Just for all you
Glock fans out there, I'm planning on replacing it with a G23 or G30 or just maybe a G36.

Keep the handgun you've got now and save up. Look for ways to save money, and use what you've got until you can afford another handgun. If you absolutely see no other way to save money, and feel that you MUST get a handgun that fits the situation better, do it.

All I know is I sold a .22 revolver awhile ago, and I already miss that lil' bugger (It was a nice plinker and around the farm gun). From now on I will never sale a gun unless I HAVE to, not because I want something different.

Papa, I just did it. I had a Glock 21 that I did love that I traded for a Sig 228. The Glock was just too big and bulky for me to CC. The Sig fits the bill nicely because it is a bit smaller. It is a medium sized auto and it outshoots the Glock seven ways to Sunday. It is just as quick into action as the Glock with no manual safety and in my eyes it is a true DA/SA pistol which the Glock with it's much lighter trigger pull is not. (Yes, I will get flamed for that!) Going from .45 ACP to 9mm was no big deal to me because it's about shot placement. The 9mm FMJ target rounds are a good deal cheaper than the .45 which means I will be able to afford to shoot more which is a good thing.:image035: You need to evaluate your situation. Do a pro and con list........and figure out what is best for your situation.

Others have said to save up like crazy. Well if you are like me that is not an option. I got a great deal on the trade and I don't feel like I got bent over! I traded the G21 and a little cash to boot, no big deal. I have a wife, a two year old, and debt up to my eyeballs right now. My wife recently got laid off so making a $600 dollar purchase would have been selfish on my part. Once again, evaluate your situation.

I'm not much of a trader or seller, tend to keep everything. I've managed to put some frown lines on my wifes face doing that. However you know your situation better then I do. Do what ya gotta. You'll probably have a little regret tho. I would.

Like others have said, I'd save up and get the G23 or G30. There might be a time and place that the G22 would be the better gun to have....like gun games or if your smaller Glock ever was down for maintenance or customization.

Look at holster and clothing options instead of selling that gun, you'll regret it later if you don't. The 23 is not that much smaller that the 22, chances are that a new, quality holster will make it more comfortable and more concealable for you.

Don't give up--I carry my G22 as often as my USP. Mark my words--I've never sold a gun and been glad for it later. I've always wanted that gun back or wished I hadn't sold it. Find a way to make it work and save your pennies in the mean-time.

I have to agree with the crowd. Keep it and save up. I carry a G22 for my ccw and works fine. Maybe you just need to look into a different carry method.

Well said! - I would also encourage the same. Top of the line holster and belt will run you around $150 - $200. Your 22 is an excellent weapon. If you already shoot it well, don't sacrifice that for a 1/2 inch less butt stickin' out.

I have a custom made gunbelt (almost a 1/4 inch thick) and a C-TAC, Makes a Glock 21 so darn comfy, I wanna do cartwheels.

I never sell, trade or give away my guns. Not planning to until my 2 youngest sons are old enough to own them. (My oldest 3 are not gun people but there is hope.)
I find that giving up something I like or love is usually not worth the aggravation. And the replacement isn't any better in the long run...

I'm about to sell my second pistol to get something else I want. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do. I'm ending up with a mighty fine pistol for carry (XD45Tac) (sold an XP100R to get it) and I'm about to sell my XD9sc so I can own a Savage 10FP with Super sniper 10X scope. I lose a little but I win big time.
