What would you carry for a SD round in a 45. with a 3in. barrel?A FMJ or HP?Being the barrel is
short would a HP expand enough?Would a FMJ be better?Would lose some velocity being a short barrel. What about a flat-nose?This will be in my Bondarms.15ft and closer.Whats your thoughts.I know its a 2 shot but its accurate and that's what I carry.

Its a .45, really does not matter what you load it with. Your throwing a huge, heavy chunk of lead. JHP, FMJ, really doesn't matter in a big bore. But it can't hurt to run JHP, if you really want to. Its kinda like saying, which .357 Magnum ammo should I use. Its a magnum, doesn't really matter. Its going to work, as long as you can put rounds on target.

Wrong in both cases. The projectile matters more even in a magnum.

For example a .45 fmj will make roughly a 31 caliber hole in tissue, a .45 hp expanding to .75cal will make a .61 cal hole in tissue. Same holds true of the the magnum. Even at magnum velocities there is little to no significant wounding via "energy dump" only reliable wounding is done by the size of the hole created by the direct contact of the projectile crushing or cutting tissue.

My data comes from FIRST HAND experience, not hearsay
or Someone else's scribbling on a page. But you are obviously one of THOSE people. So debaiting this with you is like beating a dead horse. So tell you what, I'll continue to carry tried and tru ammo, u carry your fancy wiz bang bullets. At the end of the day I dout very much that the bad guy will care much weather its a HP or FMJ when dealing with large bore handguns. Never heard of a guy getting shot with a .45 fmj and going "please sir, can I have another". Just sayin.
