Please consider this to be an accurate and truthful review of the Milt Sparks AXIOM holster for the J-Frame revolver.
Pictured here with an older STAINLESS S&W (hidden hammer) J-Frame Centennial Model.

Firstly as would always be the case whenever opening a much awaited package delivered to your door from from M. Sparks, it is immediately necessary to take some mandatory "time-out" and do nothing but, admire the overall quality and craftsmanship of the product...inclusive of the flawless finish, the hand "boning" and the extraordinarily perfect stitching.

But, that is all typical of Sparks holsters AKA Made With Pride In The U.S.A.

That is precisely what I did and cosmetically I could find nothing wrong with this fine example of gun leather.

If you are a normal human being (and at all interested in leather-working) you'll find yourself wishing that you were talented enough to "craft" a holster as nice as the one you now have in hand. And almost immediately you will make the determination that the Sparks rig was well worth the wait.

The AXIOM seems to be one of those well thought out holster styles that will really "shine" if a person finds it necessary to disarm and re-arm multiple times per day. It is very QUICK ON ~ QUICK OFF.

Buyers are made aware of the fact (by way of an included note) that the uppermost set of leather snaps are "one way" directional snaps and if you are completely unfamiliar with those you would do well to practice snapping and unsnapping those a few times to get the hang of them. I am already well accustomed to them so "not" something that I personally needed to bother doing.

Tony K. of Milt sparks states that the AXIOM is ideally suited for (on body location) 3:00 O' Clock but, I tested it today at my regular 4:00 position and it still held the firearm in very close to the body and drawing the firearm was a true breeze.
I can envision no issues or concerns with the AXIOM either "directly on the hip" or behind the hip.

Some members may appreciate the fact that the AXIOM houses the firearm a bit higher up on the belt than the PMK and with somewhat more forward rake. Truthfully though the Sparks PMK already completely "disappears" a little J-Frame under just a slightly oversize T-Shirt.
So with regard to OWB conceal-ability it is "A Half Dozen Of One And SIX Of The Other" in my opinion.

Tony originally designed the PMK for his Wife but, the holster is absolutely unisex and Male or Female it IS the way to go for the ultimate in comfortable carry.

My Stainless J-Frame actually feels "weightless" in both the Axiom and the PMK.

As some members are already aware - we are a married couple loving the Sparks PMK for the S&W J-Frame.
I have rained highest praises on it multiple times in the past here on DefensiveCarry.
And we already consider the amazingly well designed PMK to be the ultimate holster for daily OWB snubbie carry.
So...not certain (as of yet) how the AXIOM will raise the bar above that but, Time Will Tell.

It is my honest opinion that if you desire the most comfortable OWB carry of a snubbie where you really can "forget" that you are even lugging a firearm around with you "all day long" then opt for either the PMK or the AXIOM.

About the only time that I would NOT recommend a PMK would be if you have one of those overly extra thick double thickness gun belts.
You will have some initial difficulty sliding the PMK onto a grossly over thick gun belt until the holster breaks into your belt.
One of the great properties of leather is that eventually that will become easier.

As I discovered on the M. Sparks web site...the word Latin word Axioma translates to "Fitting & Worthy" and the Axiom seems very well named as it "Fits" perfectly and is (in my opinion) "Worthy" of every penny of the cost. :yup:

The Axiom is only available in cow hide and not horse hide.
Not an issue at all for an OWB holster and my other Sparks holsters are many years old in cow hide and they are as serviceable today as they were on DAY ONE out of the box.

So....bottom line...Be Kind To Yourself. Buy a Sparks for your snub.

OK....and just me practicing my subliminal suggestion  ~ Notice in the PIC that the pocket watch is set to 1:38 (One .38) and the claw on the watch fob is grabbing for the 38....CENTS.

But, of course you all already noticed that. :yup:

Since all of my holsters are OWB ~ mine are a bit scratched and banged up but, still 100% functional with no loss of retention.
I consider the "range markings" that I have put on mine just to be added personality.

Oh BTW ~ Handy Link~~~~> Milt Sparks Holsters

Good looking rig! I see on the website it says it's only for 1911s but apparently they have it for J-frames since you have one. Wonder if an LCR would fit?

Yes, now available for the S&W "J"

I should add that I normally carry a 1911 but, all of my 1911s now sport ivory grips and our weather has been screwy here.
HOT/humid/HOT Dry/Colder/Humid then dry.
Not such great weather for ivory since extreme shifts in temps especially when going from outside into air conditioning can be a curse for ivory with regard to checking and cracking. Hot and Humid into Cold & Dry A.C. is a potential disaster for ivory.

As many custom knife makers found out when taking custom ivory handled knives from various parts of the country to highly air conditioned knife shows.

SO....for the past few weeks it has been Tru-Spec Short Pants and a J-Frame in the Axiom with nice, vintage, unbreakable rubber handles. :biggrin2:

You're preachin' to the choir, here! I'm another 'service pistol guy', preferring to carry a USPf9 or P30S, cocked-and-locked. But this has been an incredibly humid summer so far in SD (although not all that hot yet). More often than not I'm toting my Ruger LCR instead of a big gun. Do you think the LRC would fit a holster properly that's designed for a J? They're reasonably close in size...would depend on how closely it's boned.

The Axiom that I have is boned and molded perfectly to the S&W "J" but, I think that being as the PMK can be custom molded to fit "most" shorter barreled snubs that an Axiom for the LCR would be a strong possibility but, you would need to check that out with Tony K. at M. Sparks.

And before anybody asks ~ and to answer a PM to me for everybody (in general) ....I have not tried/carried the Sparks for the 1911. Only for the "J"

I have never met a Milt Sparks holster that I ...didn't like. IMHO, worth the wait & MORE THAN WORTH the money. Nice J-frame set-up. And no, I didn't notice the watch set for "one thirty eight", but I admire your clever subtlety.
