Ok I just wondering if anyone here owns both which do you think is the better .357 magnum revolver and why? Why do people say the 686 is the better revolver of these two,and that the 686 is very close to a python in terms of smoothness is this the case? Do you feel like the king cobra is inferior to the 686? Or is this more like comparing a BMW 750iL to a Mercedes-benz S600,is one really better than the other or is it strictly a personal preference thing?

Having owned both a Python, a 686, and extensively handled a King Cobra, I would have to say the 686 is a notch above the King Cobra. To me the 686 fit my hand better and was not as bulky as the King Cobra. I would say S&W carefully studied the Python and designed the 686 using the finer aspects of the Python. I definitely wouldn't put the King Cobra in the BMW or Mercedes class, whereas the 686 would definitely be at the upper edge of the Audi class.

Took a used Browning BDA .380 to a gunshop in the late '80s. He gave me the option of a NIB GP100, 686, or King Cobra. I took the 686 and never looked back. I am looking for a used 681 to make a custom snubbie. The L frames are sweet.
