IMHO it's an overpriced gimmick. I've seen a few ballistic tests that showed them not dissintegrating as intended when hitting drywall.
I think most folks here will agree jacketed hollow points (JHP) are best.
Standard loads vs +p depends on your gun and personal preference.

 

i've also seen some not-so-great tests of them. But some swear by them.

I say: if it's in doubt something works when it comes to life & death situations, skip it, pick the tried and true. I try to always use Law Enforcement ammo in my guns when CCWing. It's very well-tested and used by pros. Should be good enough for me.
