Gun Control: the battle against the clock following Newtown

Here a link to an article that appeared in Slate. In brief, it says that most people forget about tragedies after a month, but since most of the victims of the Newtown were young children, forgetting will take longer this time. It also discusses some tell tale signs as to whether Obama is going to make an honest push for new gun control laws (hint: watch the State of the Union Address).

I'm tired of these type posts, but we have to keep writing our legislators. Who wins will likely come down to which side makes the most noise the for the longest period of time.

Of particular interest is the following snippet:
One of the key messages, says a White House official, is to “drain the drama and fear” out of what the president is proposing. The message the president wants to send is that he’s not trying to trample on hunters and sportsmen. That’s a necessary precursor to any legislation because advocates for reform argue that the only way they will be able to build popular and political support is if they can split the NRA from its leadership. If the membership can be convinced that the president is not an ideologue trying to grab their guns, they will be less likely to believe the NRA leadership who paint him that way.

EDIT: Here a link to the NRA-ILA "Write Your Reps" website. Writing all your reps at takes less time than writing a forum post. It's the best way you could possibly spend the next five minutes. Be polite and be clear that you strongly oppose any new gun control laws.

BO doesn't need NRA to paint him, he has painted himself. He has painted himself RED.

Yeah cause it clearly says in the second amendment "...for trap, skeet, 3gun, IDPA, and hunting"

I don't think he can do very much to gun owners, not without Congress. His people threaten executive orders but there is really no law he can execute.

Now what he could do is go after the FFL's. They're somewhat vulnerable, and I do notice a bit of flinching from dealers. One of the large dealers in CT has decided to stop selling rifles to people who don't have pistol permits. Never mind that you have to go through the same screening process you do for a pistol permit and wait 2 weeks if you want to buy a long gun without a permit.

Another thing he could do is go after interstate pacts, i.e. Utah permits. There's probably something in the post-9/11 government-issued ID requirements that he could use to stop Utah from issuing documents to non-residents. :frown:

I've learned it's often best to let my emotions settle-down before making life-altering decisions. I sure wish Congress felt the same way. But these anti-gun laws have been written & collecting dust in a drawer for YEARS until the utopian socialist believed the time was right to STRIKE! IMHO, the longer it takes, the better for the 2nd Amendment. :biggrin2:

I just found out about this Ruger site on another forum. It sends a form letter (in contrast to the NRA-ILA website where you write your own note), but the Ruger site sends mail to state and federal officials. I think I just generated ten pieces of mail to various politicians. It's super fast too. Takes practically no time at all. Definitely worth doing.

The really really really good news is that we only have 4 more years of this scumbag unless Benghazi murders bring him down under impeachment. My theory stands.... I believe the gun scare right now is a textbook misdirection from the real issue that Hillary was about to testify as well as the Congress was getting ready to seriously look into what happened with Benghazi. I have a feeling that this will throttle down and all Obama did was buy more time. That is about it.

I sincerely believe that Benghazi may be his watergate and bring him DOWN.

Proof lies in the pudding and here is a little pudding...

Of course "We the People" have to DEMAND that congress look into this otherwise it is going to be unpunished murder if he did in fact commit these crimes.

You mean our government sometimes inflames & misdirects the citizenry with emotional, high-interest subject manners and, with the cooperation of the media, bombards the airways with a clogging mass of misinformation in order to divert attention AWAY from more important and potentially embarrassing/damaging issues?!?
