How I set up my Sig MPX

About two months ago I purchased a Sig MPX pistol in 9MM with an 8 inch barrel. I purchased it bare with no accessories installed at all. My goal was to have an intermediate to short range weapon (25-100 yards) that I could carry in my truck unobtrusively or use at home in a worst case scenario. I had flirted with SBRs, AR pistols, and a Tavor and decided against them (not because they are bad) but for various personal reasons (tax stamps, noise, size, etc.).

I got the MPX and set it up with the following accessories:
• SB Tactical Stabilizing Brace (http://www.defensivecarry.com/forum/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=37)
• Aimpoint T2 with LaRue mount (full co-witness) https://www.larue.com/products/aimpoint-micro-t-2-2moa-m4-qd-mount-combo/
• Troy battle sights with LaRue Mounts (https://www.larue.com/products/both-front-rear-troy-sights-combo/)
• Surefire Mini Scout Light - 500 Lumens (https://www.surefire.com/m300c-z68-compact-led-scout-light.html)
• LaRue Mount for the Mini Scout Light (https://www.larue.com/products/larue-tactical-offset-flashlight-mount-lt606/)
• Blue Force Vickers Combat Application Sling, Padded (https://www.blueforcegear.com/padded-vickers-sling)
• BCMGUNFIGHTER KeyMod**™ Quick Detachable Sling Mount
(https://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCMGUNFIGHTER-KeyMod-Quick-Detachable-Sling-Mo-p/bcm-kmsm.htm)
• Select Carry Sling Pack (Concealed Carry Sling Pack | Official 5.11 Site)

It was never my goal to set this up on the cheap, but to come up with a rock solid, dependable set up. I come from the commercial diving mentality of "If you can't pound nails with it, it's no darn good." (Stronger language normally used, but I've toned it down in respect for the PG sensibilities here.) I've carried the weapon in this bag through several hotels and nobody gave me a second glance.

The MPX is a joy to shoot. Zero recoil, incredibly accurate. My wife, who was skeptical at first, thinks it is the absolute bomb.

Here's a couple of shots of the set up.

Thanks. It took awhile to figure out the best way for me to do this, but the end result was well worth it.

Neat gun! I want one, but cant convince myself its right for me. Here is my question. What made you go with this over a glock mag AR?

#7 ·
I did not really look at Glock magazine ARs. They could have been a viable alternative. I saw so many great reviews of the MPX, along with the specifications, it seemed like a really good way to go. Certainly not the cheapest by any stretch of the imagination.

REALLY nice G26! I would add a can, but of course that would add some length as well.

I'd love a can, but with the tax stamp and a decent can it appears to be about another $1000.00. And then I am back to the fact I can't take the can with me out of state without a letter to the ATF. It would be nice to have for at home, for sure.

I have mine for home defense duty. What level of readiness do you keep yours. Meaning one in the pipe, safety on or mag in, bolt down, chamber empty?

I store it with a full magazine inserted, but nothing chambered, safety on, as opposed to my handgun, where a round is always chambered. I was taught this technique by several of my trainers who come from a law enforcement background. This is referred to as the "patrol ready." I'm sure there are other people who follow a different procedure, but this is the way I was taught.

I have lusted over an MPX for several years, but just can't justify the expense on my now fixed income. I'd love to have one for patrol duty. Although it would probably be cheaper to just buy a complete new SBR upper.........

I really like what you have done. Although I think I would have gone with open sights and a bright light/laser combo like the Surefire x400......

Your is really Sweet!!!!

The weight is somewhere between 7.5-7.7 pounds. I have to hold it on the scale vertically, hence the "variable" range. That's with a loaded 20 round magazine.

The price? Uh, the price

I'll tell you, but you have to promise not to tell my wife!

MPX $1500.00 (plus tax)
Aimpoint T2 $770.95 with shipping
LaRue Surefire Scout Offset Mount$114.95 includes shipping
Surefire Mini Scout Light 500 Lumens $277.00
Troy Battle Sights Front and Rear $199.00 plus shipping
SB Tactical Brace $199.49
BCM Quick Detachable Sling Mount $17.95 plus shipping
Blue Force Gear VCAS Sling $55.00

I am afraid to add it all up! :gah:

You're a brave man Brother Raven! Thanks! I double-pinky swear not to tell Mrs. Raven.
(*However, if you'll PM her email address to me, I'll anomalously link her to your last post. Then you can claim it...wasn't YOU!) :vs_cool:

Actually, she does know...And since she seems to enjoy shooting it as much as I do, it's not really that big a deal to her.

Great looking setup. I just bought the 8" MPX today with the 3 position brace already attached from Preppers. I want to add a single point sling but I am unsure where to do so. Can you provide a picture of the underside of the brace where the QD for the sling attaches? Is that QD point built into the MPX or did you have to add the attachment point?

My sling attaches to the butt end of the pistol with a quick disconnect just below my brace. There is a machined receiver hole for it there. I am not familiar with the brace you have, but it's possible that the brace is covering up the hole. I'll get a picture of it for you in the next day or so.

If that's what you bought (same as mine with the exact same brace) then the quick disconnect attachment point is directly below where the brace attaches to the pistol.

I shoot right handed. With the offset mount, it does not seem to present any issues. I have my weapon light similarly mounted on my even more scary looking fully semi-automatic assault rifle that fires 30 clips in a second!

Do you guys keep your mPX with one in the chAmber assuming it’s a home defense gun

No. Look at my earlier post in this thread that describes my procedures.

I follow that practice, too.

G26R,

Damn you! I can't get the picture of your PDW out of my head!!!

I've now realized there's a PDW "gap" in my Zombie Preparedness arsenal.

Now, I'm not going to lay out that kind of cash for the SIG, but I'm guessing I can build something like this in 300AC:

I bought a couple Aero Precision lowers on sale, was planning on building another varmint rig, but thanks to you, the PDW is on my next to do list.
