Making the pocket holster sticky

After a while the pocket holster loses it's sticky and wants to come up with the gun. So I googled the problem and found several ideas. One quick fix is to wrap some rubber bands around the holster. Then I saw where some guy that made his own holsters spayed them with plasti-dip. But the one that I like is gluing the 3M sticky rubber shelf liner to the sides of the holster. It helps keep the holster in the pocket without making it sticky to the touch. I just wanted to throw that in as a tip for beginners because the forum has gotten to be so political lately that I thought it might be nice to get back to a little- how to- about guns and holsters.

I am looking forward to offering a Kydex pocket rig when I re-open Appalachian Concealment. The shelf liner sounds interesting, I may incorporate that idea, thank you. A back pocket mag pouch would work well with that also.

Tell the kids not to touch it. Pretty soon it'll mysteriously be sticky. I promise. I proved this with my TV remote :danceban:

You might could rub an old tennis shoe sole all over it?

My wallet holster occasionally comes out with the gun in certain pants, Someone on the Taurus suggested this. I wish I didn't have to buy 50' and I'm not sure how it would stick to leather,

REMORA NON SLIP STRIPS

It would be well worth it if you got 50' for $10.95. Not such a good deal when you only get 50", though!

BTW, won't your wallet holster get pretty thick if you wrap that remora skin around it? Sort of defeats the idea of concealment IMO.

I'm pretty sure Mika holsters use that shelf liner stuff. It works.

That's a rosin bag.

You can just wrap skateboard tape around it. I also use it on my some of my gun grips when the front strap is smooth. You cut it to size, peel off the paper backing to expose the sticky side, stick it on your holster and it is not going to come out with the gun. I only have one non Mika holster that I need to use it on. You can also just spend $30 for a Mika holster, the only pocket holster that has never come out with my gun. I do not like the Nemesis at all. You would be hard press to find a negative review of the Mika handmade pocket holster.

I've used nothing but suede iwb's with the clip removed for over a decade for the pocket carried J frames. They stay put all by themselves without the necessity to use strips of this, that or something else as a workaround.

Personally, I don't like the idea of 'pants pocket' holster carry. Yes, it's convenient to just stick it in your big pants pocket, and gearing up before running out to the grocery store is quick and simple.

BUT, drawing/deploying the firearm which is, after all, the reason for carrying in a holster (besides safety) is SLOW. Reaching around deep down in a pants pocket takes time and is OBVIOUS. It's inaccessible when you're sitting in the driver's seat.

I won't even mention the tendency to stuff something in over top of it (like a grocery receipt?).

Now a 'JACKET' pocket is a completely different story. Some of these holsters lend themselves well to a windbreaker/jacket pocket carry.

One has to differentiate between back and front pocket carry in the discussion of pocket carry. I carry back pocket, not front, for all the detrimental reasons you listed. Which are handily negated with back pocket carry [ drawing isn't slow, it's not obvious and it's accessible while seated ].

What's wrong with just buying a Remora? I use one when I have to pocket carry my Sig P938. Works fine.

Take some nylon mesh fabric, .25" square grid is just about ideal. Attach it to the exterior of your holster with clothes pins. Cover the mesh with a very thin layer of (black?) 3M Marine (Silicone) Sealant, use a popcicle stick like you're icing a cake. Then peel off the mesh. It will leave a grid of neatly-spaced, curly-topped little black silicone dots. Hang it on a wire & don't touch ANYthing for 24 hours. Taa Daa! Pocket Sticky! Any & all sticky methods will become less effective with dust & lint. Mild soap & a quick, easy toothbrushing returns it to like-new. :image035:

This is one of the many reason why I made my own kydex pocket holsters last year. They will NOT come out with the gun under any circumstances.

For years I pocket carried in a DeSantis, then switched to a Sticky a couple of years ago. I got tired of the bulk and the lack of retention.
