Texas does NOT require you to notify unless the peace officer "demands" identification whether you are carrying or not.

GC 411.205: If a license holder is carrying a handgun on or about the license holder's person when a magistrate or a peace officer demands that the license holder display identification, the license holder shall display both the license holder's driver's license ore identification certificate issued by the department and the license holder's handgun license.

 

I will say that there is a lack of consistancy between what you will hear from an instructor, what you hear from LEO's and what you can read in our statutes. I've got a hard copy, somewhere, of a statute that says you are not to hand your permit to an LEO unless/until requested. How nuts is that? I've also been informed (by 3 LEO's, different jurisdictions) that our posted laws are outdated. Again, how nuts.....somebody must be wrong.

usually...it's the LEOs. With that said, you do NOT have to hand over your permit unless it's requested. You (In NC) DO have to inform in some way though.

 

Someone posted the section of Ohio's Revised Code that covers this. It does say that you only have to notify if you are carrying a firearm. That being said I was recently hassled by a local yocal (village police officer) while on my MC His first words to me were"You damn bikers! Always whining that cars don't look out for you but you just rolled that stop sign!" I didn't "roll the sign" As a matter of fact I had completely stopped and adjusted my sun glasses before starting off. Anyway I gave my DL and Insurance card to the 20something punk and he went back to his car. He then yelled do you have a gun?!(he had probably drawn on me but I couldn't see him) To which I replied "No sir". He came back and told me he should run me in for not informing him that I have a CHL and that I am required by law to inform any police officer that I am licensed to carry a gun. He didn't even issue a citation for the alleged stop sign roll! The entire stop was harassment and he didn't have a clue what the ORC actually said.

This was the only time I have ever had a problem with a police officer here.
