Thanks guys.

Now that I have those 5 rounds through it I'm looking forward to more range time, initially I figured it would be a snappy little bugger but it wasn't and I really enjoyed it... this may get some carry time after all.

Very nice, I agree with you on the 642/442, great made gun that I could never shoot very well. Something about the geometry of the frame and trigger just did not work for me. I shoot some other snub-nose guns just fine, like Charter Arms, but no matter what grips I tried, past 7 yards I might as well have thrown the J frame as shoot it.
I have the Polymer version of the Judge and it is the most fun handgun to shoot I own. I think the polymer Taurus revolvers are a good deal for the price.

I have four Taurus revolvers and found them to be good accurate reliable guns. As for their autos I've had two and will not have another. My favorate revolver is the 608 357, 6.5 in comp, barrel . This is a very well made gun and has been shot plenty.

I have 3 Taurus revolvers and no complaints about them

2 of those are model 85's

The first one I bought was a blued one with the wooden grips. Carried it for a while and decided to get something a little lighter. So I picked up a model 85 hamerless ultra light. It's now the one that gets CC'd the most in my collection.

Both are reliable and accurate for being a snubby. I can tell the difference in recoil of the ultra light though.

Some days I think about getting a little semi 9 or .380, but then I come to my senses a few minutes later and realize it's more of a want thing than a need.

I have the .357 version of that revolver. Kicks like a mule, but it's a great gun. Off hand at 30 feet, it will keep a 3" group with no effort. Enjoy your new gun and good luck.

I have eleven Taurus® revolvers.............
• Mdl 85B2CH 38 Special - 1994
• Mdl 669SS4CP 357 Magnum - 1996
• Mdl 85B2 38 Special - 1997
• Mdl 617SS2 357 Magnum - 2003
• Mdl 605SS3 357 Magnum - 2006
• Mdl 85SS2UL 38 Special - 2007
• Mdl 605SS2 357 Magnum - 2010
• Mdl 605SS2 357 Magnum - 2012
• Mdl 425SS2 41 Magnum - 2012
• Mdl 85SS2UL 38 Special - 2012
• Mdl 992B4 22lr/22Mag - 2013

All have performed superbly and I continue to shoot them all almost every week.

I have only encountered two problems.........
• Mdl 85B2CH broke a firing pin after 11,000+ rounds. I replaced the firing pin & it's still going strong.
I have zero complaints with Taurus® customer service. The one time I had to send a gun in they fixed and returned it when they said they would. Specifically.....................
• Mdl 617 developed excessive cylinder to forcing cone gap (.011") after almost 6,000 rounds. I sent it to Taurus® and they replaced the cylinder and adjusted the crane and yoke. I've since put 2,000+ rounds through it and it's still going strong.

I will not hesitate to buy additional Taurus® revolvers.
They are an outstanding value.

I really like my Poly Protector .38+P.

I went with the SS model and got it to be a knock around type gun. I like it a lot though and find myself carrying it more and more.

It shoots well. Accurate. DA trigger is heavy but very smooth.

You can throw it in a pocket or carry it in a holster.

Poly Model 85

I've got a question for people that own the poly protector model 85. I just picked one up used and the cylinder will continuously roll one way but not the other one the hammer is forward. That is not what I'm used to it a revolver but I was told that is common for the poly. Is there any truth to that.

The Cylinder should not move when the hammer is down. I would clean the ineards with a spray cleaner then lightly lube. If that doesn't work have Smith look at it to decide if it should go back to Taurus.

I've been looking for an inexpensive, modern revolver to demonstrate how a revolver functions and to have students load/unload, etc, and stumbled across the Taurus Model 85 in polymer, called the Protector.
Metal for me, thank you. I find the Taurus "Poly" revolvers unsightly. Never handled one, though.

I have a Taurus 605, that I shoot reasonably well, and hasn't been a problem. It's been sidelined lately in favor of a S&W 642 that's much lighter, and hammerless. Much more convenient for pocket carry.

old story

A plastic revolver? Really, plastic belongs in toys, not guns. And no, I don't just say that because I don't like Taurus. Actually I feel Taurus revolvers are as good as any smith. I think the plastic ruger revolver is junk too. You just can't convince me plastic is a good idea when it comes to guns, especially revolvers. Just my 2 cents.

They said the same thing about the M-16....and then the Glock.
Look at how poorly those two did.

Oh man...after the TCP, I need to add another Taurus to the list?! Say it isn't so! As an aside, The Yankee Marshall prefers it over the Ruger LCR. If that means anything to you....

Good luck! And, keep us posted on your progress!

My Taurus Poly +P is my daily carry. SA is nice and crisp. DA started out a bit stagy but sitting in the living room loaded with Snap caps practicing site acqusition has evened it out and I'm putting a double tap, quick draw point shooting in the 8 ring every time. I've never had an issue with Taurus revolvers and I've owned 3.
