I have a SP101 in .357 with the shorter barrel. I have the factory grips that I'm not overly impressed with. I also have the Hogue grips that are very comfortable and make it easy to shoot the gun. I have relatively small hands but they fit the Hogue grips just fine. My only gripe is that the rubber finish on the hogue grips catch on my clothes and are abrasive to my skin I I don't wear an undershirt. Do y'all have some suggestions that would work a little better for me?

Many holster makers provide a body guard (extra leather that prevents the grip from touching the body).
I have this on many of my holsters and it helps quite a bit.

I also have the SP101 in a Fist IWB holster with the body guard...works very well.

I might also add, I put wood inserts into the grips...nothing catches.

Changing out my stock SP101 grips has been on my mind this week.

The Ruger factory grips really are probably as close to perfect as one could get, but GEZZZ they are ugly!

Really like the looks of the Badger boot grip, would anyone be so kind as to post some pics of wood SP101 grips?

Thanks!

+1 for wood grips. I have the big SP101 (4.20 barrel so I dont know how it translates to the shorter versions) and when I would OWB carry with the Hogue rubber it was always tugging at my shirt. I went to hogue rosewood and I like it though they may be a bit big to conceal. YMMV

I've heard Pachmyer makes some grips that a lot of people like too.

Just what I needed to see! Although I can't argue with how comfortable the Hogue grips are, the grippy texture and extra length make it a no go for carrying, even owb. I guess I'm going to have to un-ass the money for Badgers. Do they make them in a synthetic material, or are they only available in wood? Plain black plastic would be perfect for me, but didn't see it on the website.

If the Hogue (rubber) grips catch on your clothes & abrade your hide, you need to ditch 'em immediately. Getting tangled-up in your cover clothing can quickly put you at the bloody end of a gunfight. Go to the Gemini Customs (Frankfort, Ky) website, they are Jedi Masters of the SP101. There you'll find answers & goodies galore for your fine Ruger j-frame.

Been in the same situation, Taush grips from france worked for me, synthetic plain black, not grippy and fits a smaller hand.

Good luck! The SP101 is my edc.::smile:
I don't often see the Trausch Grips around. I picked up the Trausch for my SP101 several years ago and used it for awhile. I finally sat it aside in favor of the Pachmyr Compac. I still have the Traush Grip. It's a good choice for the SP101. Here's a picture:

Yeaaah, but the idea of (gulp!) FRENCH grips on my SP101 kinda' gives me the woolies. Like trading in my Porsche for a Renault or something. I think I'd rather play naked kick-the-hornets'-nest. :biggrin2:

I got the Hogue Mono grip in today. Ordered the Mono grip in nylon as some of my other carry pistols have rubber Hogue grips and if my cover garment doesn't adhere to it, lint certainly does! Anyway, had the Hogue grips on in about 5 minutes and immediately found them to be much more comfortable than the stock grips. The stock grips just did not let my little finger fit without discomfort and overall, I found the stock grips small. MUCH more comfortable feeling with the Hogue grips.

I have the rubber versions..very happy with them. I didn't realize they made an exact version in nylon.

Thanks. Yes, they are firm. When I checked out the reviews and talked to folks about the nylon Hogues, the one comment that was common to all was, it feels like a wood grip initially, I thought about wood, but I couldn't find anything that really "struck my fancy", so I figured for less than $20.00, I'd try these out and just get the wood when I find exactly what I want. Plus, I think the Hogues give the revolver a more "utilitarian" look.

I use Pachmayr Compac grips on my SP-101 and carry it in a Side Guard Quick Clip holster. :hand10:

Gold Dots in 125 gr. .357 is my carry load of choice so the grips are real important in recoil control and followup shots.

No problems with the grip material catching on the cover shirt. I always wear an undershirt of some sort to keep the gun away from my skin. :yup:

You have to watch these guys to see when they offer something you want, they don't seem to keep a large inventory on hand. Let's see if I get this right, the SP101 grips came from the gunbroker guy, a set of boot grips for S&W36 came from the ebay guy. Both are in Thailand.
They're not as detail finished as someone like Eagle grips would be but then they're half the price too. I'm happy with them.
