He was in the market for a compact sized handgun and asked me to go with him to pick one out. He had his choices narrowed to a Beretta PX4 storm compact, springfield XDS/XDE, and walther PPS M2. After handling the firearms, he chose the XDE. He prefers hammer fired guns. I kind of tried to sway him to the PX4, since its not much larger than the XDE, but you get more rounds out of it. He still chose the XDE. I will be going to the range with him soon to see how this gun functions and shoots. He seems to be very happy so far. :congrats:

My wife loves her XDE...I do too. I videoed her trip to the range last week and noticed (as did some of her friends) that it seems to have quite a recoil. She still likes it, even when the recoil was pointed out to her on the video.

Yes, we both prefer hammer-fired. I like to know where that hammer (the thing that strikes the firing pin...striker?) is at all times.

Im glad you and your wife loves the XDE. I hope my buddy is happy after his range visit as well. The only thing I do not care for about the XDE is the size. I think it could have been a bit smaller for carry. In comparison to the Beretta PX4 storm compact for example:

XDE- 8+1, 5" tall, 3.3" barrel, 6.75" long, 25 oz and 1.0" wide
PX4- 15+1, 5.1" tall, 3.2" barrel, 6.8" long, 27.3 oz and 1.4" wide

The PX4 is 3/8" wider, but all of the other dimensions are very close and you are picking up 7 more rounds. I dont know. I guess its up to each individual what they prefer.

Congratulations on the XDE.

Forgot to mention, the XDE was $479, and the Beretta was on sale for $449. :scratchchin:

Pretty cool for a light little DA/SA gun that gives you carry mode options such as C&L, hammer down,
decocker, and safety up.

I've yet to encounter one in person, but I hope to as they are interesting.

I'm sure that they are lighter to carry than my RAMI.

I fired a few shots from one not long ago, wasn't that impressed. The DA pull is ungodly heavy, and the SA pull has so much travel I felt like I could eat a hamburger while I was waiting for the wall. The RAMI still has a very heavy DA pull, but overall the trigger is far better on it than the XDE. Besides, even though it doesn't fit me very well, the RAMI is just so damned adorable. It truly does look and feel like a little baby CZ just waiting to grow up :biggrin2:

I recently purchased a new XD-E on a whim while fondling it at the LGS. First, it is extremely accurate and was completely reliable after 200 rounds and feels good in the hand. It is slightly larger than my Shield which I like, and having a hammer for CCW. With a 8/1 or 9/1 capacity, it has enough firepower for casual CCW'ing around town. It feels very solid and not flimsy at all. Once I find an appropriate holster, it will become my new CCW. In closing, I wanted to report that it is only 0.9 thick which lends well for concealment.

I almost bought one one on a whim. Fit my hand perfectly. I rented one, and it shot great. Recoil was very manageable. I love hammer fired gun, especially with decocker.

That said, I don't think I can bring myself to buy a polymer pistol again.

Being 6'4" and 215lbs, I don't need a tiny single stack for carry. I'm perfectly happy with a Smith and Wesson model 36 or my Steyr M9 in colder weather. For sd/carry, I'm fine with five shots. Home defense, well 17 is plenty. If I need more I'm either fighting a zombie horde or a couple of meth addicts trying to rob my house.

For those looking for a hammer fired gun with multiple carry options, the XD-E is a great choice.

I think it's a great under rated pistol. It fills a niche. DA/SA super slim 9mm. Nothing else really fits that category.

Plus it's a good shooter, ergonomic, and reliable. I really do like it. I still don't up carrying my Shield more since it's just lighter and I am more comfortable shooting it because of the trigger, but for a hammer carry gun the XDE is pretty hard to beat.

The thinness of it really is where the pistol shines.

From the articles, pics and videos..tv.ect.

The XDe looks to be pretty cool.

Unlike a RAMI, one could actually use the thumb safety in condition one in a hurry.

I know that more than a few people carry cocked 'N locked RAMIs, but that safety is
really thin, too thin for my bony fingers to swipe off in a hurry.

Like a RAMI BD, one can decock the new Springer after loading the chamber, if C&L
isn't your cup of tea (that reminds me that I need a hot cup of Rooibos) and then be in
DA/SA mode.

A RAMI BD leaves the hammer @half-cock position that (even after a number of decocker guns)
I'm not too fond of.

I've not handled a XDe quite yet, but am curious as to how heavy the Double Action
trigger pull is on one, and if I'd be able pull such without much effort.

The DA on my RAMI is lighter than that of a new RAMI BD that I just plain struggled with.

I have trouble with the poundage and ar of the hammer when it travels back and then forward.

A striker-fired pistol eliminates this to a good degree, but a Cocked & Locked gun gets past this
hurdle for me.

I've stated before that I have concern about carrying a Condition One gun as a permit holder, but
never did as a police officer or deputy sheriff.

Then there is the question of Cocked & locked and the person new to guns in general.

Striker-fired or DA/SA/Decocker would probably be more prudent.
