I've had the PT145 & the PT745, both, for a few years. It IS odd how close the grips are in size. I love 'em both, but you have to remember to clean the bejeeses out of any Taurus semi before you go shooting it.
Also, they like decent ammo and will machine themselves perfectly with about 200 rounds through them. I always field strip my Tauruses after shooting and only lube them very lightly.
I got a case of Hornady +P 185 gr JHP XTP ammo for them and they serve me well. You can use 'em out plinkin' or at the range with some cheap Fed A&E or Rem UMC when a few problems are not an issue.
For serious defensive use though, use the good ammo.
There aren't many other decent choices for an inexpensive, yet reliable .45acp. especially in the 21 ounce range of the PT745.
The owner of my favorite LGS chose the Taurus Millennium PT145PRO years ago as his EDC, from a huge inventory of sidearms. Saw him today, he still wears it.
He swears by the Corbon +P Pow'Rball ammo with the poly ball in the HP tip.... the 'ball' ensures feeding & the prefrag 'lead-in-a-Jacket' makes a brutal wound cavity.
