If you are firing from Retention, I think you'd better plan on firing the gun until the bad guy moves away or is moved away by the good guy. Once that has happened, the gun is advanced to appropriate extension based on the range to the threat.He should try to back off after he's shot once, then you can bring them up. If not, let him have a couple more.
Pocket carry might mitigate the draw & retention issues but it does nothing for the 'keeping conscious & on my feet' problem. Getting bullets on the bad guy is great but it doesn't do anything to stop the impact that he started. If I could shoot the bad guy once before his fist crashed into my skull, that is small comfort and unlikely to have any significant effect on the outcome. I've still been hit, am seeing tweety birds, am falling to the ground under his onslaught. This sucks for me.[F]or me there would be no draw and retention problems....
