I ordered some G19 mags from Brownells shortly after Sandy Hook. I received an email today saying that my back ordered item is now in and asked for me to call in to see if I'm still interested in getting them.

I'd like to have the extra magazines, so I'm still interested. The thing is, I ordered mags for a Gen3 G19. If I change my order and get Gen4 mags instead, will I be able to use them in Gen3s & Gen4s? I'm of the understanding that Gen3 mags will only work in Gen3 models but Gen4 mags can work in either. Is this correct? The lady I talked to today said it would be okay for me to call her back tomorrow with my decision.

No. The only time a 3rd generation mag won't work is when you re-install the mag release on a Gen4 for a left-handed shooter.

 

Thanks, Mike. That makes sense. If I understand this correctly, the Gen3 mag has detentions on one side for the release to work off of but Gen4s have a detention on both sides for an ambidextrous release. Is that right?

 

Any glock mag will work in any glock of that caliber .. I have gen 1 and 2 glock mags from the fist glocks that work in my gen 3 plus

The only time they will not on a 4 is if you switch the mag relese to the other said then and only then would you need dual cut gen 4 mags

And yes gen 4 have dent on both sides


Do note that the very fist mags the gen 1 and 2 mags will not drop free or will only if half loaded or the such ... You will still run into them esp for 40 cals they work great just note that if you ever try to drop the mag on a glock and the mag does not drop free it might not be the gun...
