Well, this same question came up for me. The two main guns I was looking at purchasing were the PPS and the Kel-tec.

The PPS is a new design. That's not always a bad thing, but innovation often breeds mechanical failures. It's something the Germans do very well. Over-engineered to a fault, innovations often come at the price of reliability.

The pricing is waaaay different. You can get a top-of-the-line HC Pf-9 for $320 OTD if you haggle a bit. I haven't seen anyone willing to part with their PPS for less than 650 before taxes, at least in my area...ymmv

Now this one, something that most don't really think about, was the real sticking point for me. The PPS only has a 1 year warranty. Now that would be fine (for me) with something that has been on the market for several years and has the bugs out (for the most part). The Kel-Tex has a lifetime, no questions asked warranty. I know people that have sent in a second hand, 2nd production run pf-9 for work and got all the revision work done, fixed the problem they had, and all of this was done in 3 weeks from the time of the first phone call to the time he was able to receive his pistol again...

Yeah, the pf-9 had some problems early on, but they have largely been fixed. The only existing ones that come to mind are the extractor screw working it's way out over time leading to FTEs (can be fixed in 5 minutes with a little locktite) and the fact that the mag follower is plastic (keltec will send new ones of these to you ad-infenitem if you ask).

As you can tell from my post, I went with the kel-tec. You don't get more than double the gun with the walther pps, and the warranty is a sticking point for me.

Well since my original post I visited several model specific forums, PPS, Walther, I decided to get the Kel-tec PF-9- 50 rounds so far and no problems. I do not like the trigger as it is a little sharp on the finger bottom.
I took wifes little emery board and took care of that. seems fine now, I like the lifetime guarantee. recoil is not that bad. I also bought a Kahr P-9 Black Diamond Stainless on Black, this one is real nice, but have yet to shoot it, can not wait...

Merry Christmas to me!!!

I have PF-9 with 450 flawless rounds through it and think that it is a great little gun. But, I bought the PF-9 exclusively for pocket carry. If I intended to carry on my hip, then I probably would buy the PPS, given the choice between those two guns.

My PF-9 has been my everywhere carry since they came out. I keep taking it to the range with me and proving the naysayers wrong. Several have shot it and a couple now own one. My original reason for buying it was for BUG duty and it still does that, but it is also my office primary since I can slide it into the pocket of my slacks and it disappears. It has gone bang over 2000 times now and never misfired. It did misfeed once with 147gr Winchester SRX JHP's, but then so did my Browning Hi Power. For the money it is a fantastic little hand cannon.
I have never owned the PPS-9 so I cannot comment on that gun, but if it is half as good as my PK-380.....it must be a fine gun.
